ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14
THE A19 TRUNK ROAD (SEATON TO HERRINGTON) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A19 Trunk Road, in the City of Sunderland, to enable carriageway resurfacing and bridge painting works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Monday 21 July 2025 for 1 month or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, to close, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, the A19:
(i) northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at the A1018 Ryhope Spur Interchange to the entry slip road at the A690 Herrington Interchange, a distance of 6220 metres;
(ii) northbound entry slip road at the B1404 Seaton Lane Interchange; and
(iii) northbound exit slip road at Herrington Interchange.
During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.
It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works to:
(i) impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A19 northbound carriageway from 1935 metres south of the centre point of the
B1404 overbridge northwards for a distance of 7540 metres; and
(ii) close the laybys adjacent to the A19 northbound carriageway approximately 393 metres south, 1360 metres north, 2050 metres north, 2700 metres north and 4120 metres north of the B1404 overbridge at Seaton Lane
Traffic management will be in force 24 hour a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restriction (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and the prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance). The Order comes into force on 20 July 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
