KIRKLEES COUNCIL (TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO. 03) ORDER 2025

FITZWILLIAM STREET AND CASTLEGATE, HUDDERSFIELD

The Council of the Borough of Kirklees propose to make the above Order under their powers in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which, as it affects lengths of road in the Huddersfield area of the Kirklees district, will be to:

1. Introduce one-way traffic flow on Fitzwilliam Street, Huddersfield from its junction with St John’s Road northeastwards to the junction with Viaduct Street

2. Introduce a no left turn restriction from Castlegate to St John’s Road, Huddersfield.

REASON: Funding has been made available by the Department for Transport through the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) for delivery of key regeneration areas in the Huddersfield Blueprint. To improve connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, a two-way cycle track segregated from traffic is proposed including a segregated cycle track on St. John’s Road, and wider footways on St. John’s Road. To accommodate these improvements, Fitzwilliam Street is to be made one-way from the junction with St John’s Road northeastwards to the junction with Viaduct Street. The layout changes at the junction of Castlegate and St John’s Road will require a left turn ban from Castlegate. The implementation of these restrictions are expected to improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

A copy of this draft Order, together with the plan showing the affected lengths of road and a detailed statement of reasons for proposing the Order may be inspected at: Online: http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/traffcregulation By emailing highways.TRO@kirklees.gov.uk.

If you wish to object to the proposed Order, you should send the grounds for your objection to: by email: TRO.Objections@kirklees.gov.uk; or by post to TRO Objections, Kirklees Council Legal Services, PO Box 1720, Huddersfield HD1 9EL.

Objections must be sent no later than 05 August 2025, and please ensure you quote reference DEV/HG/D116-2502.
