KIRKLEES COUNCIL

(TRAFFIC REGULATION) (CONSOLIDATION ORDER PROVIDING ON-STREET PARKING PLACES, WAITING, LOADING AND STOPPING RESTRICTIONS AND MIGRATION TO A ‘MAP-BASED’ FORMAT) ORDER 2024 (AMENDMENT NO. 13) ORDER 2025
BECK ROAD, ST JOHN’S ROAD & FITZWILLIAM STREET, HUDDERSFIELD

The Council of the Borough of Kirklees have made the above Order under their powers in the Road Traffc Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which, as it affects lengths of road in Huddersfeld in the Kirklees district, will be as follows:-

1. To prohibit the waiting of vehicles at any time on lengths of the following roads:
i. St John’s Road, Huddersfeld
ii. Beck Street, Huddersfeld
iii. Fitzwilliam Street, Huddersfeld

2. To prohibit the waiting of vehicles between the hours of 08:00 – 18:00, Monday to Saturday, on lengths of the following roads:-
i. St John’s Road, Huddersfeld
ii. Beck Street, Huddersfeld’

3. To modify the existing restrictions against waiting (between 08:00 – 18:00 Monday to Saturday) on a length of St John’s Road contained in the Kirklees Council (Traffc Regulation) (Consolidation Order Providing On-Street Parking Places, Waiting, Loading and Stopping Restrictions and Migration to a ‘Map-Based’ Format) Order 2024

4. To revoke certain items in the Kirklees Council (Traffc Regulation) (Consolidation Order Providing OnStreet Parking Places, Waiting, Loading and Stopping Restrictions and Migration to a ‘Map-Based’ Format) Order 2024 which will be redundant when certain parts of the restrictions referred to above are introduced

These revocations relate to the existing restrictions against waiting (between 08:00 – 18:00 Monday to Saturday) on lengths of St John’s Road and Beck Road and the existing restrictions against waiting at any time on lengths of Fitzwilliam Street

REASON: Funding has been made available by the Department for Transport, through the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), for delivery of key regeneration areas in the Huddersfeld Blueprint.

To improve connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, a two-way cycle track segregated from traffc is proposed. To introduce a segregated cycle track on St. John’s Road, and wider footways on St. John’s Road and Beck Road, it is necessary to reduce the existing carriageway width.

To prevent obstructive parking where the carriageway has been narrowed it is necessary to introduce No Waiting at Any Time restrictions on both sides of St. John’s Road and some of Beck Road.

The implementation of these restrictions are expected to improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

A copy of this draft Order, together with the plans showing the affected lengths of road and a detailed statement of reasons for proposing the Order may be inspected at:-
