North Hertfordshire - Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures and Waiting Restrictions due to Utility and Maintenance Works
What is happening?
HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:
(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF GREEN DRIFT, ROYSTON) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Green Drift, Royston from its junction with Kneesworth Street south westwards for its entire length (“the Road”), except for access.
There is no alternative route available for vehicles when the works are being carried out. However vehicular access to properties in this road will be maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works.
The Order is needed because utility works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 24 July 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF B1039 BARKWAY ROAD, ROYSTON) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of B1039 Barkway Road, Royston from a point in line with the north western boundary of No.45 Barkway Road south eastwards for a distance of approximately 30m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via B1039 Barkway Road, A10 (Barkway Street/London Road/Ermine Street/unnamed road/Buntingford Bypass), B1038 (Baldock Road/High Street/Hare Street Road/unnamed road), B1368 (unnamed road/Biggin Hill/London Road/High Street/ Cambridge Road/ London Road/High Street) and B1039 (Royston Road/Barkway Street) or via B1039 (Barkway Street/ Royston Road), B1368 (High Street/London Road/ Cambridge Road/High Street/London Road/ Cambridge Road/High Street/London Road/ Biggin Hill/unnamed road), B1038 (unnamed road/ Hare Street Road/High Street/Baldock Road), A10 (Buntingford Bypass/unnamed road/Ermine Street/London Road/Market Hill/ Priory Lane) and B1039 Barkway Road.
The Order is needed because electrical works are proposed to be executed near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 21 July 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF ICKNIELD WAY, ROYSTON) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Icknield Way, Royston from its junction with Garden Close north westwards for a distance of approximately 60m (“the Road”), except for access.
An alternative route will be via Garden Close, Poplar Drive, Garden Walk and Icknield Way.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 9 July 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND TEMPORARY WAITING RESTRICTIONS IN VARIOUS ROADS IN THERFIELD, SANDON AND ROYSTON) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”), except for access and to prohibit all vehicles from waiting at any time on both sides of these lengths of Roads whilst works are in progress:–
that length of Reed End, Therfield from its junction with Dane End north eastwards and south eastwards to its junction with A10 London Road, a distance of approximately 1200m.
An alternative route will be via Haywood Lane, Rooks Nest Lane, Five House Lane to Whiteley Lane, Whiteley Lane and A10 London Road.
that length of Sandon Road, Sandon/Therfield from its junction with C10 (unnamed road) south eastwards and north eastwards to its junction with Rooks Nest Lane, a distance of approximately 1000m.
An alternative route will be via C10 (unnamed road), C108 (unnamed road), Fears Green, North End, Kelshall Tops, The Causeway, Police Row, Hay Green and Rook Nest Lane.
that length of Therfield Road, Royston from its junction with Kelshall Tops northwards to its junction with Baldock Road, a distance of approximately 2825m.
An alternative route will be via The Causeway, Police Row, Haywood Lane, Reed End, A10 (London Road/Market Hill/Priory Lane), Baldock Street and Baldock Road or via Baldock Road, Baldock Street, A10 (Priory Lane/Barkway Street/London Road), Reed End, Haywood Lane, Hay Green, Police Row and The Causeway.
that length of Kelshall Tops, Therfield from its junction with Therfield Road south westwards to its junction with North End, a distance of approximately 890m.
An alternative route will be via The Causeway, Police Row, Hay Green, Rooks Nest Lane, Sandon Road, C10 (unnamed road), C108 (unnamed road), Fears Green and North End.
that length of Haywood Lane, Therfield from its junction with Dane End north westwards to its junction with Rooks Nest Lane, a distance of approximately 520m.
An alternative route will be via Reed End, A10 London Road, Whiteley Lane, Five House Lane to Whiteley Lane and Rooks Nest Lane.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 7 July 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.
