What is happening?
CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(AJ BELL GREAT NORTH 10K EVENT) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on the 3rd July 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and has received consent from the Secretary of State for Transport to make such an Order.
2. The effect of the Order is to:-
(a) prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on the lengths of highway set out in Schedule 1 to this Notice;
3. The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on site as required.
4. The Order is required to facilitate the holding of the Great North 10K Event 2025 (“the Event”) and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event.
The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.
5. Exemptions in the Order permit the use of the said highways by:-
(a) police, fire brigade or ambulance vehicles on emergency call
(b) authorised vehicles and personnel officiating in the Event
6. The Order will come into operation on 5th July 2025 and will continue as follows, as and when relevant traffic signs are displayed -
(a) in respect of items (i) to (v) in Schedule 1 to this Order from 09.30 to 10.30 on Saturday 5th July 2025,
(b) in respect of item (vi) in Schedule 1 to this Order from 04:00 to 14:30 on Sunday 6th July 2025, and
(c) in respect of items (vii) to (xxi) in Schedule 1 to this Order from 08.30 to 14.30 on Sunday 6th July 2025.

(i) Strawberry Place - From its junction with Barrack Road north eastwards for 200 metres,
(ii) Strawberry Lane - From its junction with Strawberry Place southwards for 35 metres,
(iii) Rear of St James’ Street - From its junction with Strawberry Place northwards for 111 metres,
(iv) St James Terrace - From its junction with Leazes Terrace eastwards to its junction with St James Street,
(v) Leazes Terrace - From its junction with St James Terrace northwards for 194 metres,
(vi) B1318 Great North Road - From Blue House roundabout to its junction with Claremont Road,
(vii) A167 Central Motorway including on and off slip roads - From its junction with Grandstand Road to its junction with Tyne Bridge,
(viii) Tyne Bridge - For its entire length,
(ix) Market Street East - For its entire length,
(x) Market Street - For its entire length,
(xi) Grainger Street - From its junction with Market Street to its junction with Blackett Street,
(xii) Blackett Street - For its entire length,
(xiii) New Bridge Street West - From its junction with Pilgrim Street to its junction with John Dobson Street,
(xiv) John Dobson Street - From its junction with Market Street East to its junction with St Marys Place,
(xv) St Marys Place - From its junction with Barras Bridge to Sandyford Road,
(xvi) Sandyford Road - From its junction with St Marys Place to its junction with the Civic Centre car park,
(xvii) College Street - From its junction with St Marys Place for its entire length,
(xviii) Ellison Place - For its full length.
(xix) Durant Road - from its junction of John Dobson Street to its junction with New Bridge Street Roundabout,
(xx) Barras Bridge - for its full length, and
(xxi) Claremont Road - from its junction with Barras Bridge to its junction with Queen Victoria Road.
