What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 03 July 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4) & (5). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (6), (7), (8), (9) & (10).
(1) CEMETERY ROAD, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Cemetery Road, York between the projected south-western boundaries of property no’s 60 and 76 (closed road) during the period when fire hydrant renewal works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 07 July 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 08 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Fishergate, Paragon Street, Barbican Road.
(2) HEWORTH GREEN, MALTON ROAD, EASTERN TERRACE, MALTON AVENUE, STOCKTON LANE, HEWORTH ROAD, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Heworth Green, Malton Road, Eastern Terrace, Malton Avenue, Stockton Lane, Heworth Road, York
(i) on Heworth Green between the roundabout controlled junction with Malton Road and its junction with Cinder Lane and
(ii) on Malton Road between its roundabout controlled junction with Heworth Green and its junction with Muncastergate and
(iii) on Eastern Terrace between its junction with Heworth Green and a location 72 metres south-east of said junction and
(iv) on Malton Avenue between its junctions with Heworth Green and Irwin Avenue and
(v) on Stockton Lane between the roundabout controlled junction with Malton Road and the junction with Seymour Grove and
(vi) on Heworth Road between the roundabout controlled junction with Heworth Green and its junction with Heworth Place (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 07 July 2025 and ending at 0200hrs on Friday, 18 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Malton Road, A1237, Shipton Road, Clifton, Bootham, Gillygate, Lord Mayors Walk, Monkgate.
(3) LEEMAN ROAD, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Leeman Road, York between its junction with Cinder Lane and a location 226 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when York Central development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Tuesday, 08 July 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Friday, 08 January 2027 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Cinder Street, Park Street.
(4) AVENUE TERRACE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Avenue Terrace, York between the projected south-western boundaries of property no’s 35 & 43 (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 09 July 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Wednesday, 09 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Avenue Road, Burton Stone Lane & Clifton.
(5) BROWNLOW STREET, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Brownlow Street, York between its junctions with Back Lane Linking 29 Brownlow Street To Rear Of 9 Neville Terrace and Lowther Street (closed road) during the period when water connection works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Thursday, 10 July 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 11 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. The restriction on vehicles travelling from Park Grove into Neville Terrace will be temporarily removed for the works period only to allow for a suitable diversion route. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Brownlow Street is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Neville Terrace, Neville Street, Haxby Road, Clarence Street, Lord Mayors Walk, Monkgate, Huntington Road, Park Crescent, Jackson Street.
(6) ROUGIER STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Rougier Street, York between its junctions with Station Road and Tanner Row (closed road) during the period when crane works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Sunday, 13 July 2025 and ending at 1100hrs on Sunday, 13 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Bridge Street, Fawcett Street, Skeldergate Bridge, Nunnery Lane.
(7) TOWTHORPE ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, HAXBY
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Towthorpe Road Level Crossing, Haxby between the junctions with Mallard Way and Linley Avenue (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2200hrs on Monday, 14 July 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 15 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Station Road, York Road, Haxby Road, A1237, Strensall Road.
(8) PLUMER AVENUE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Plumer Avenue, York between its junctions with Station Road and Tanner Row (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Monday, 14 July 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Tuesday, 15 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0900hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Whernside Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Tang Hall Lane.
(9) REDWOOD DRIVE, HAXBY
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Redwood Drive, Haxby between the projected western boundaries of property no’s 4 & 8 (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 14 July 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 18 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access will be maintained for residents and emergency vehicles during the works period.
(10) MARKHAM STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Markham Street, York between its junctions with Eldon Street and Haxby Road (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 15 July 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Tuesday, 15 July 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Haxby Road, Stanley Street, Eldon Street.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
