Southsea Common Overflow Car Park - Proposed Amendment
What is happening?
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO SOUTHSEA COMMON OVERFLOW CAR PARK
1. Notice is hereby given that the Portsmouth City Council proposes to make the following Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984: The Portsmouth City Council (Southsea Common Overflow) (Off-street Parking Places) (Amendment No 1) Order 2025. The effect of the Order would be to extend the number of days per year that the car park can operate from the current 17 days to 28 days.
2. It is intended that the extension of the number of days the car park can operate would last until 31 December 2027, and thereafter revert to a maximum of 17 days per calendar year. The reason is to maximise parking capacity in Southsea at particularly busy times, due to a reduced parking capacity along the seafront whilst the coastal protection works are taking place between 2025 and 2027.
3. Copies of the draft Order, and Statement of Reasons are available to view on Portsmouth City Council’s website: Search 'Traffic Regulation Orders 2025" at
Alternatively, they can be viewed at the Civic Offices, Guildhall Square, PO1 2AL, Monday to Friday between 9am - 4pm. Printed copies can be obtained by calling 023 9268 8501.
