A259 TRUNK ROAD – KING OFFA WAY
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A259 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order is to authorise:-
1) the overnight and total weekend closure of the A259 between the crossroads with London Road (A269) and the crossroads with Dorset Road (A269) in both directions.
2) the 24-hour closure of all lay-bys adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in 1.
3) the 24-hour closure of the foot access pathway between Edinburgh Road and the A259, and the footway adjacent to the eastbound carriageway of the A259 between the connecting path and Chapel Path.
These measures are in the interests of safety while contractors undertake the replacement of the Lychgates Close Footbridge and Hastings Road Footbridge.
It is expected that the work will last for approximately 4 months starting on or after Friday 18th July 2025. The overnight closures will take place between 20:00 and 06:00 hours, and the weekend closures will take place between 20:00 hours on Friday nights and 06:00 hours on Monday morning. Please see National Highways website for further details.
The Order will come into force on 16th July 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months. Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted using the A269 (London Road/Buckhurst Road), B2182 (Upper Sea Road) and A269 (Magdalen Road/Dorset Road) in either direction.
The temporary closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
