PROPOSE TO INTRODUCE NEW PARKING RESTRICTIONS AT THE JUNCTION OF KING EDWARD ROAD WITH QUEEN ALEXANDRA ROAD AND JUNCTION  OF KING EDWARD ROAD WITH BARKERS LANE, BEDFORD

Reason for Proposal:

Bedford Borough Council has received a request from Ward Councillors for new parking restrictions at the junction of King Edward Road with Queen Alexandra Road, Bedford and the junction of King Edward Road with Barkers Lane, Bedford. This is in response to concerns raised over inconsiderate parking at these locations which affects visibility and safety, so these restrictions are intended to remedy that.

Effect of the Order:

1.  To introduce ‘No waiting at any time’ restrictions (double yellow lines) on the following lengths of roads:

A   King Edward Road, Bedford

(i)    On both sides, extending from its junction with Queen Alexandra Road for a distance of approx. 10 metres in an easterly direction.

(ii)   On both sides, extending from its junction with Barker’s Lane for a distance of approx. 10 metres in a westerly direction.

B    Queen Alexandra Road, Bedford

(i)   On its eastern kerb, extending from the centre of King Edward Road for a distance of approx. 10 metres in both a northerly and southerly direction.

C   Barkers Lane, Bedford

2.  To introduce “No waiting, Mon – Fri, 8:00 – 8:45am, 3:00 – 3:45pm” restrictions (single yellow line) on the following lengths of roads:

A    Greenacres, Bedford

(i)    On its north-eastern side, extending from a point approx. 4 metres north-west of the projected boundary between nos. 14 and 16 Greenacres for a distance of approx. 22 metres in a north-westerly direction.

B    Hartshill

(i)    On its north-western side, extending a point approx. 10 metres south-west of its junction with Greenacres (the end of the existing ‘No waiting at any time’ restriction) for a distance of approx. 15.5 metres in a south-westerly direction.

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC) ORDER 2022

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the order made by Bedford Borough Council on 23rd December 2022, extended on 30th June 2023, 22nd December 2023 , 28th June 2024, and 20th December 2024 the effect of which will be to prohibit any person proceeding on foot or on horseback or lead a horse or cycle along the length of Odell: Bridleway No 31 and Felmersham: Bridleway No 8 which extends from its junction with Mill Lane Odell at Ordnance Survey Grid Reference (OS GR) SP 9652 5775 to the OS GR SP 9711 5712 junction with Carlton Road Felmersham has been continued in force with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport until 6th July 2026.

This temporary closure is required as the bridge is unsafe. The closure will continue from Monday 7th July 2025 for up to one year.

There is no alternative routes for users while the closure is in operation.

The Order will come into operation on 7th July 2025 for a period not exceeding one year or until the works which it is proposed to carry out on or near to bridleways have been completed, whichever is the earlier. If the works are not completed within one year the Order may be extended for a longer period with the consent of the Secretary of State for Transport.

WYBOSTON CHAWSTON AND COLESDEN: PART OF FOOTPATH NO A10 AND FOOTPATH NO 10

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC) ORDER 2022

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Order made by Bedford Borough Council on the 15th December 2022, extended on 1st September 2023 and the 21st June 2024 the effect of which will be to prohibit any person proceeding on foot along the length of part of public footpath No A10 and footpath No 10 Wyboston, Chawston, and Colesden which extends from Ordnance Survey Grid Reference (OS GR) TL 1537 5536 to OS GR TL 1475 5572 has been continued in force with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport until 2nd July 2026.

This closure is required to facilitate works associated with the Improvement Scheme for the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbett.

The closure is to continue from Thursday 3rd July 2025 for up to one year.

There is no alternative route for footpath users while the closure is in operation. The Order will come into operation on 3rd July 2025 for a period not exceeding one year or until the works which it is proposed to carry out on or near to the footpaths have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
