ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14
THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (EAST ORD ROUNDABOUT)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A1 Trunk Road, in the County of Northumberland, to enable new street lighting installation to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start at 8pm on Monday 30 June 2025 for 19 weeks, or until completed.

The effect of the order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to impose a temporary 40mph, and at times 10mph speed restriction on the A1 Trunk Road carriageway from 420 metres south of Ord Mains Accommodation overbridge to 420 metres south of the B6461 Paxton Junction, and including East Ord Roundabout, a distance of 2350 metres; The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle.

It will be necessary, for 24 hours a day, to close the laybys adjacent to the A1 Trunk Road:

(i)   northbound carriageway approximately  410 metres south of the access road leading to Heckley Fence, Denwick, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area; and

(ii)  southbound carriageway approximately 350 metres north of Highfields Roundabout, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area.

It will also be necessary between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A1 at its junction with  the C57 leading to East Ord Village.

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 29 June 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
