What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (SPRINGWELL ROAD AND UPLANDS WAY SUNDERLAND) (NO WAITING AND NO LOADING/UNLOADING RESTRICTIONS) EXPERIMENTAL TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025

Notice is hereby given by the Council of the City of Sunderland that on 11th June 2025 it made an Order under Sections 1, 9, and 10 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance in Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act and with the persons and organisations specified in the Local Authorities Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996. The effect on an experimental basis will be to prohibit waiting at any time along the roads in Schedule 1, prohibit waiting and loading/unloading Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm (inclusive) along the roads in Schedule 2. The Order will come into force on 30th June 2025 and shall cease to have effect 18 months after the date on which it comes into force, which is 31st December 2026. . The Council will be considering in due course whether the provisions of the Experimental Order should be continued in force indefinitely. Within a period of 6 months beginning with the day the Order came into force, or if the Order is varied by another order or modified pursuant to Section 10(2) of the Act, beginning with the day on which the variation or modification or the latest variation or modification came into force, any person may object or make representations to the making of an Order for the purpose of such indefinite continuation. Any objection must be made in writing and must state the grounds on which it is made. If any person wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or that any requirement of the Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with that person may within six weeks from the date on which the Order was made apply for the purpose to the High Court. SCHEDULE 1 Springwell Road, Springwell, Sunderland the north-east side from a point 6.9 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 30 & 31 Springwell Road, for a distance of 19.5 metres in a southerly direction. Uplands Way, Springwell, Sunderland both sides from a point 8.6 metres west of the extended party property boundary of 5 & 7 Uplands Way, to its western extent.
