Canterbury, Multiple Temporary Traffic Regulation Notices

What is happening?

Highways

 

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

 

CANTERBURY AREA

 

Athol Road, Whitstable, CT5 2EW (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2025

To allow drainage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on Athol Road, Whitstable, from 9th July 2025, with estimated completion by 11th July 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Clare Road, Northwood Road, Baliol Road, Athol Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Bigbury Road, Chartham Hatch, CT2 9BJ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025

To allow new service connection works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Bigbury Road, Chartham Hatch, from 27th June 2025, with estimated completion by 3rd July 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junctions with Faulkners Lane and Tonford Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Pilgrims Lane, Faulkners Lane, Tonford Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Broomfield Road, Herne, CT6 7LY (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2025

To allow maintenance works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Broomfield Road, Herne, from 7th July 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed opposite number 43, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Broomfield Road, Mill Lane, Hunters Forstal Road, Margate Road, Broomfield Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Church Lane, Westbere, CT2 0HA (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025

To allow gas mains replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Church Lane, Westbere, from 23rd June 2025, with estimated completion by 11th July 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed at the junction with A28 Island Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Westbere Lane, A28 Staines Hill, Island Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

This closure is in conjunction with two-way lights on A28 Island Road.

 

Dering Road, Bridge, CT4 5NB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2025

To allow drainage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Dering Road, Bridge, from 7th July 2025, with estimated completion by 8th July 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed opposite number 2, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Dering Road, Union Road, High Street and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Golden Hill, Whitstable. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025

To allow investigation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Golden Hill, Whitstable, from 23rd June 2025, with estimated completion by 27th July 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed at the A299 overbridge, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Golden Hill, Bogshole Lane, A290 Clapham Hill, A2990 Thanet Way and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Hawks Road, Herne Bay, CT6 7QZ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2025

To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on Hawks Road, Herne Bay, from 7th July 2025, with estimated completion by 11th July 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Cornwall Road, Blackburn Road, Greenhill Road West and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

King Street, Canterbury, CT1 2AG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025

To allow sewer repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of King Street, Canterbury, from 30th June 2025, with estimated completion by 11th July 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside number 52, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for southwest bound traffic is via King Street, Palace Street and Orange Street.

The alternative route for northeast bound traffic is via King Street, Orange Street, Palace Street, Borough, St Radigunds Street and Knott’s Lane.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

St George’s Street & Canterbury Lane, Canterbury. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2025

To allow roof access to be maintained for air conditioning works, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of St George’s Street & Canterbury Lane, Canterbury, from 7th July 2025, for up to one night, between the hours of 02:00 and 05:00, or until the works have been completed.

The roads will be closed at the junctions where they meet, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Canterbury Lane, Link Lane, Iron Bar Lane, Burgate, Sun Street, Palace Street, Borough, Northgate, A28 Sturry Road, Tourtel Road, Military Road, Broad Street, Lower Bridge Street.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Sweechbridge Road, Herne Bay & Heart In Hand Road, Herne and Broomfield. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025

To allow highway improvement works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Sweechbridge Road, Herne Bay & Heart In Hand Road, Herne and Broomfield. Closures are planned in phases, on weeknights only, from 23rd June 2025, with estimated completion by 4th July 2025, between the hours of 21:00 and 06:00, or until the works have been completed.

Monday 23rd June & Monday 30th June 2025

Heart In Hand Road will be closed at the slip road south of A299 Thanet Way, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for through traffic is via:

Diversion 1 - A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road, A299 Thanet Way, Sweechbridge Road.

Diversion 2 - Heart in Hand Road, Sweechbridge Road, A299 Thanet Way (St Nicholas at Wade), A299 Thanet Way.

Tuesday 24th June & Tuesday 1st July 2025

Sweechbridge Road will be closed at the slip road north of A299 Thanet Way, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for through traffic is via:

Diversion 1 - A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road, A299 Thanet Way, Sweechbridge Road.

Diversion 2 - Heart in Hand Road, Sweechbridge Road, A299 Thanet Way (St Nicholas at Wade), A299 Thanet Way.

Wednesday 25th June & Wednesday 2nd July 2025

Heart In Hand Road will be closed at the bridge over A299 Thanet Way, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for through traffic is via Sweechbridge Road, Reculver Road, Mickleburgh Hill, Margate Road, Margate Road Interchange, Margate Road and Heart In Hand Road.

Thursday 26th June & Thursday 3rd July 2025

Sweechbridge Road will be closed at the railway bridge, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for through traffic is via Sweechbridge Road, Reculver Road, Mickleburgh Hill, Margate Road, Margate Road Interchange, Margate Road and Heart In Hand Road.

Friday 27th June & Friday 4th July 2025

Heart in Hand Road will be closed south of the bridge over A299 Thanet Way, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for through traffic is via Sweechbridge Road, Reculver Road, Mickleburgh Hill, Margate Road, Margate Road Interchange, Margate Road and Heart In Hand Road.

 

Thornden Close, Herne Bay, CT6 7RU (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2025

To allow footway works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Thornden Close, Herne Bay, from 7th July 2025, with estimated completion by 11th July 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between number 68 Cornwall Road and the junction with Greenhill Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
