Bury, Temporary Road Closures Due To Carriageway Resurfacing & M60 Slip Road Diversions

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984, SECTION 14(1)

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF BURY

(BURY NEW ROAD, WHITEFIELD) TEMPORARY CLOSURE 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury have made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers, the effect of which will be to prohibit vehicles from proceeding along:

Bury New Road, Whitefield – from Glenmore Close/Willow Road (including M60 junction 17 roundabout) to Nos. 23 & 26 Bury New Road, a point approximately 200m north of the M60 Junction 17 roundabout.

The reason for the proposed order is to facilitate carriageway resurfacing works.

The alternative route will be via Bury New Road, Scholes Lane & Bury Old Road & vice-versa.

M60 on-slip & exit slip road diversions as follows:

  • West bound exit-slip closed: west bound traffic to be diverted at junction 16, A666, return east bound M60 to exit at junction 17 with east bound traffic, continue north on A56 for Whitefield or follow local diversion on Bury Old Road, Scholes Lane and Bury New Road for Prestwich.

  • West bound on-slip closed: south bound traffic from Whitefield to be diverted east bound on M60 to junction 18 and returned west bound on M60. North bound traffic to A56 Middleton to be diverted at Scholes Lane or at Valley Park Road (access road to Tesco Superstore) south on Bury New Road to Scholes Lane, Sheepfoot Lane and Middleton Road to join M60 at junction 19, continuing anti clockwise M60 via Junction 18.

  • East bound exit-slip closed: east bound traffic to be diverted at junction 18, returning west bound M60 to exit at junction 17 with east bound traffic, continue south on A56 for Prestwich or follow local diversion on Bury New Road, Scholes Lane and Bury Old Road for Whitefield.

  • East bound on-slip closed: south bound traffic to follow local diversion at Bury Old Road to Scholes Lane and south on Bury New Road to join M60 as normal west or north slip. North bound Bury New Road traffic not affected.

The Order will come into operation on Monday 26 May 2025 and shall remain in force for a period of up to 12 months, although the anticipated duration of the works is approximately 3 weeks in 3 phases to facilitate slip road closure diversions (overnight working, 8pm–5am).

(CANN STREET, BOWES CLOSE, SCOBELL STREET, TOTTINGTON) TEMPORARY CLOSURE ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury intend in not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers, the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicles from proceeding along:

  • Cann Street, Tottington – Full Length

  • Bowes Close, Tottington – Full Length

  • Scobell Street, Tottington – From its junction lamp pole to No.31 Scobell Street

The reason for the proposed order is to facilitate carriageway resurfacing works.

The alternative route(s) will be:

  • Tottington Road, Bury New Road, Harwood Road & vice versa

  • Via Cann Street and Scobell Street & vice versa

The proposed Order will come into operation on 30/06/2025 and shall remain in force for a period of up to 12 months, although the anticipated duration of the works is approximately 3 weeks at each location.

(DERWENT AVENUE AND MODE HILL LANE, WHITEFIELD, HEYS ROAD/HEYWOOD ROAD, PRESTWICH) TEMPORARY CLOSURE ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury intend in not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers, the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicles from proceeding along:

  • Derwent Avenue, Whitefield – full length

  • Mode Hill Lane, Whitefield – full length

  • Heys Road, Prestwich – Between Bury Old Road and 60m west of Heywood Road

  • Heywood Road, Prestwich – 50m north of Heys Road and 40m south of Heys Road

The reason for the proposed order is to facilitate carriageway resurfacing works.

The alternative routes will be:

  • Via Mode Hill Lane, Oak Lane & vice versa

  • N/A – no through road

  • Via Bury Old Road, Whittaker Lane, Heywood Road, or Langley Hall Road, Sunnybank Lane, Heys Road, Hastings Road and Hampden Road (depending on phase of works)

  • Via Bury Old Road, Whittaker Lane, Heywood Road

The proposed Order will come into operation on 01/07/2025 and shall remain in force for a period of up to 12 months, although the anticipated duration of the works is approximately 5 weeks at each location.
