What is happening?

CITY OF BRISTOL 
(VARIOUS ROADS. OLD MARKET AREA, BRISTOL)  (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF RIGHT TURN) (TEMPORARY ONE WAY TRAFFIC)  (TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF ONE WAY TRAFFIC  AND CONTRA-FLOW CYCLING) ORDER 2025  

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intend to make an Order the effect of which will be: 

1. to close, temporarily, to vehicles that length of Gloucester Lane which extends from Braggs Lane to West Street; 

2. to prohibit, temporarily, any vehicle proceeding south eastbound in Brick Street from making a right turn into Braggs Lane; 

3. to introduce, temporarily, eastbound one way traffic in that length of Braggs Lane from Gloucester Lane to West Street; and 

4. to suspend, temporarily, when appropriate signs are covered, the exist ng:- 

(a) one way traffic working in a southerly direction in Gloucester Lane; and 

(b) one way traffic working in a westerly direction and contra-flow cycling working in an easterly direction in that length of Braggs Lane which extends from Brick Street to Gloucester Lane -so as to allow access and egress for vehicles and to give effect to the alternative routes as a consequence of item 1. above. 

The Order is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the roads and will be operative from 30th June 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the restrictions may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to take place between 30th June 2025 and 8th August 2025).

(VARIOUS ROADS. CITY CENTRE. BRISTOL) (TEMPORARY  PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES AND FOOT PASSENGERS)  ORDER 2025  

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intend to make an Order the effect of which will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles and pedestrians the lengths of roads as specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice. Exemption will be provided in the Order for pedestrians requiring necessary access to premises situated on, adjacent to or accessible only from those closed lengths of roads as specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice. 

The Order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon the need to facilitate the safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles during events taking place on or near the roads and will be operative from 3rd July 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the events (which are anticipated to take place on multiple occasions and to be of 1 to 2 days duration for each closure within the period between 3rd July 2025 and 11th April 2026).

1. Denmark Street — from St. Augustine's Parade to Unity Street 
2. Gaunts Lane — from Denmark Street to Orchard Lane 
3. Hobbs Lane — from Denmark Street to Orchard Lane 

SCHEDULE 2 — Alternative Routes  
1. Unity Street, College Green, St. Augustine's Parade (and vice versa for pedestrians and pedal cycles) 
2. & 3. Orchard Lane, Orchard Street and vice versa
