What is happening?

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY given that on 9th May 2025 Wokingham Borough Council as Traffic Authority made the above-named Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act (“the Act”) acting with the consent of the Secretary of State for Transport pursuant to section 16B(1)(b) of the Act the effect of which is to restrict pedestrian traffic from using Public Footpath 4 Remenham for the purpose of facilitating the holding of the Henley Festival of Music and the Arts. 

The Order is cited the Wokingham Borough Council (Public Footpath 4 Remenham (Part)) (Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrian Traffic) Order 2025 and shall come into force at 00.01 on Monday 7 July 2025 and continue in force until 23.59 on Wednesday 16 July 2025, subject to the restrictions set out in the Order.

The effect of the Order is to prohibit any person from proceeding on foot along that part of of Public Footpath 4 Remenham from a point 363 metres from the northern boundary of the Leander Club for a distance of approximately 80 metres from 00.01am on Monday 7 July 2025 until 17.00pm on Wednesday 09 July 2025 inclusive and then from 06:00am on Monday 
14 July 2025 until 23:59pm on Wednesday 16 July 2025 or until all works on the path have been completed and it is safe to reopen it whichever is the earliest.

The alternative route for pedestrian traffic affected by the restrictions is by proceeding along the signposted route situated immediately adjacent to the closed section of Public Footpath 4 Remenham. Public Footpath 4 Remenham will also be closed from the northern boundary of the Leander Club for a distance of approximately 620 metres on the following dates and at the following times:

Between the hours of 17:00pm and Midnight on Wednesday 09 July 2025;


Between the hours of 17:00pm and Midnight on Thursday 10 July 2025;

Between the hours of 17:00pm on Friday 11 July 2025 and 01:00am on Saturday 12 July 2025;

Between the hours of 10.45am and 14:45pm on Saturday 12 July 2025; Between the hours of 17:00pm on Saturday 12 July 2025 and 02:00am on Sunday 13 July 2025;

Between the hours of 10.00am and 14.15pm on Sunday 13 July 2025; and
Between the hours of 17:00pm and 23:30pm on Sunday 13 July 2025.

The alternative route for all pedestrian traffic affected by the restrictions is by proceeding from the path closure point at the Leander club in a northerly direction for approximately 106m to White Hill then in a north easterly direction for approximately 700m and then turn east towards the river for approximately 60m. 

The restrictions shall apply only at such times as notices are displayed in a prominent position at the ends of so much of Public Footpath 4 Remenham as is temporarily closed indicating the restrictions which apply and shall not apply to persons proceeding along the closed parts of Public Footpath 4 Remenham for purposes connected with the holding of the Henley Festival 
of Music & the Arts or with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform. 

A copy of the Order and plan showing the closures and alternative routes may be inspected at Council Offices, Shute End, Wokingham RG40 1WH between the hours of 08.30am and 16.30pm Monday to Fridays or on the Council’s website.
