What is happening?
National Highways
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14
THE M62 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 29)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M62 Motorway, in the City of Leeds, to enable parapet replacement works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 6pm on Monday 7 July 2025 for 11 weeks, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times, during the works, to impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the:
(i) M62 eastbound carriageway from 800 metres west of the exit slip road at Junction 29 (Lofthouse) eastwards for a distance of 2700 metres; and
(ii) M62 westbound carriageway from 1180 metres east of the exit slip road at Junction 29 westwards for a distance of 2700 metres. It will be necessary to close, between 8pm and 6am Monday to Thursday and full weekend closures from 8pm Friday through to 6am Monday, at times, during the works, the:
(iii) M62 westbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 30 (Rothwell) to entry slip road at Junction 29, a distance of 4250 metres; and
(iv) M62 eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 29 to the entry slip road at Junction 29, a distance of 1250 metres; It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times, during the works, to ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6” in specified lanes and impose an overtaking ban in the:
(v) M62 westbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 29 to the entry slip road at Junction 29, a distance of1130 metres; and
(vi) M62 eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 29 to the entry slip road at Junction 29, a distance of1230 metres; The works will also require 24 hours a day lane closures, during which times the hard shoulder will be used for traffic adjacent to the above lengths of carriageway as described in (v) and (vi). During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available.
Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 6 July 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
