What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (JAMES STREET, CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out ("the Works"), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the north west bound lanes of James Street, Carlisle from the junction with the vehicle entrance to the Carlisle Enterprise Centre, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 100m to its junction with Victoria Viaduct.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and a suitable alternative route for vehicles wishing to gain access to Victoria Viaduct from James Street will be signed and available via Currock Street, Currock Road, Blackwell Road, St Nicholas Street, Botchergate, English Street and Victoria Viaduct.

The Order will come into operation on 1 July 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 3 days and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
