M6 Junction 37 Southbound, Cumbria - Temporary Closures and Speed Limit for Maintenance

THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 37 SOUTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAY & SLIP ROADS) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M6 Motorway, in the Unitary Authority of Westmorland and Furness, in the County of Cumbria, to allow resurfacing, loop cutting works and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.

The Order will on the following sections of the M6 Motorway:

i. impose a 50 mph speed limit on the southbound carriageway, from a point 950 metres north of the Cowperthwaite Bridge, to the Bull Copy Bridge;

ii. ban all traffic from the southbound exit and entry slip roads at J37.

Restriction i. is expected to be in place during a continuous period, starting at 06:00 on Sunday 29 June 2025 and ending at 06:00 Wednesday 30 July 2025.

Prohibition ii is expected to be in place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Sunday 29 June 2025 and ending on Wednesday 30 July 2025.

However, works may start and continue between during subsequent continuous periods, or continue between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed.

Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M6 Motorway and local roads will be well signed.

The restriction will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibition will not apply to emergency services, works or traffic officer vehicles. The restriction and prohibition will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
