Durham, Temporary Road Closures & Traffic Restrictions Due To Highway Modification Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (B6532 Dryburn Road, A691 Framwellgate Peth, Durham) (Temporary Prohibition of Driving and Road Closure) Order 2025

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road.

Prohibition of Driving: northbound on the B6532 Dryburn Road between Its junctions with the A691 County Hall Roundabout and Dryburn/High Carr Road Roundabout, Durham.

Road Closure The A691 Framwellgate Peth, main access road into County Hall from Its junction its with the A691 Framwellgate Peth, County Hall Roundabout.

Bus Lane Suspension It will also be necessary to suspend the bus lane restriction for B6532 southbound carriageway as detailed in the County Council of Durham (Various Locations, County Durham)(Bus, Cycle, Motorcycle and Taxi Lanes 7am-7pm) Order 2014 to enable highway modification works to be undertaken.

An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the southern side of the northbound closure, from A691 County Hall Roundabout north westerly on A692 Southfield Way to A167 Sniperley Roundabout and north easterly on Dryburn Park to the northern side of the restriction. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on Monday 23 June 2025 and anticipated to be completed in 10 weeks, the restrictions will be lifted between the 12 and 17 of July 2025 to allow for city centre events to take place. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
