What is happening?
WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981 - SECTION 53
WEST YORKSHIRE METROPOLITAN COUNTY COUNCIL DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT FOR THE KIRKLEES AREA
KIRKLEES COUNCIL (COLNE VALLEY 254 OLD LANE AND 255 HIGH STREET - SCAPEGOAT HILL), DEFINITIVE MAP MODIFICATION ORDER 2025
The above Order, made on 04 March 2025, was confirmed by Kirklees Council on 30 May 2025 as an unopposed order.
The effect of the Order is to modify the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by adding public footpaths, as follows:
1. A public footpath as shown on the Order map by the broken black line with short intervals commencing at its junction with Old Lane at grid reference SE 0895 1636 (point A on the map) and proceeding in a generally east-northeasterly direction for approximately 12 metres to its junction with steps at grid reference SE 0896 1637 (point B on the map) then continuing generally east-northeasterly for approximately 76 metres to the burial ground steps at grid reference SE 0904 1638 (point E on the map) then turning south-southeasterly for approximately 37 metres to its junction with Taylor Lane at grid reference SE 0905 1635 (point C on the map) with a variable width between 1.8 and 5 metres within the area hatched/edged blue on the Order map; and
2. A public footpath as shown on the Order map by the broken black line with short intervals commencing at the bottom of the steps at grid reference SE 0896 1637 (point B on the map) and proceeding in a generally north-northwesterly direction for approximately 66 metres to its junction with High Street at grid reference SE 0895 1643 (point D on the map) with a variable width between 0.8 and 3.8 metres within the area hatched/ edged blue on the Order map.

Copies of the Order and the Order map may also be inspected free of charge at Huddersfield Library Hub, Civic Centre 3, High Street, Huddersfield, HD1 2YZ (during normal opening hours). Copies may also be made at standard photocopying rates.
This Order comes into force on the day on which it was confirmed i.e. 30 May 2025 but if any person aggrieved by the Order desires to question its validity, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of Section 53 or 54 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 or that any requirements of Schedule 15 to the Act have not been complied with in relation to it, may within 42 days of this notice make an application to the High Court under paragraph 12 to Schedule 15 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
