A19 Trunk Road (Sheraton interchange to Wellfield Interchange) - Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 –
SECTION 14 
THE A19 TRUNK ROAD (SHERATON INTERCHANGE TO WELLFIELD INTERCHANGE)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A19 Trunk Road, in the Borough of Hartlepool, to enable carriageway resurfacing and bridge painting works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Sunday  8 June 2025 for 5 weeks, or until completed.

The effect of the order will be, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, on the A19, to:

(i)    close the northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at the A179 Sheraton Interchange to the entry slip road at the A181 Wellfield Interchange, a distance of 5930 metres;

(ii)   close the northbound entry slip road at Sheraton Interchange;

(iii)   close the northbound exit slip road at Wellfield Interchange;

(iv)  close the gaps in the central reservation of the northbound carriageway approximately 720 metres north, 860 metres north, 850 metres north, 2190 metres north, 2350 metres north, 3600 metres north and 4540 metres north of the A179 Sheraton Interchange Overbridge.; and

(v)   ban vehicles from entering or leaving the northbound carriageway at its junctions with Sheraton Bank Junction, Front Street Hutton Henry Junction and the unnamed road leading to the B1280,  South Wingate.

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.

It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day,  at times during the works, to:

(vi)  impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A19 northbound carriageway from 1900 metres south of the A179 Sheraton Interchange Overbridge northwards for a distance of 7580 metres;

(vii)  impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A19 northbound entry slip road at Sheraton Interchange;

(viii) impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A19 northbound exit slip road at Wellfield Interchange; and

(ix)  close the laybys adjacent to the A19 northbound carriageway approximately 1090 metres north and 3770 metres north of the A179 Sheraton Interchange Overbridge. Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and properties which are accessible from, and only from, the A19. The Order comes into force on 7 June 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
