What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2025


Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 4th June 2025 it intends to make two Orders under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpaths in Schedule 1 and all vehicles along the roads in Schedule 2. The Orders are required to enable electrical installation works in or near the footpaths and roads. The Orders will come into operation on 14th July 2025. The maximum duration of the closure under the Orders will be 6 months for the footpath and 18 months for the roads, however it is estimated the closure will only be for approximately 2 weeks and each closure will be limited to any one time. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footpath (except personnel involved in the works) and all traffic will be prohibited from the roads (except vehicles involved in the works and emergency service vehicles attending an emergency call) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Vehicular access for affected residents will be provided when essential or in an emergency and when the works are not in operation. Pedestrian access to affected properties will be maintained be throughout. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Schedule 1 Footpath Closure the footpath linking Ryhope Road and Acklam Avenue, for its entire length. Schedule 2 Road Closures Askrigg Avenue, from its junction with Ryhope Road, for a distance of 20 metres in an easterly direction. Ayton Avenue, from its junction with Ryhope Road, for a distance of 20 metres in an easterly direction. Ryhope Road East Back, from its junction with Acklam Avenue, for a distance of 30 metres in a northerly direction.
