TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 16A
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Northumberland County Council (“the Council”), in exercise of its powers as the local traffic authority under section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and all other enabling powers, has made on the 29th May 2025 the Northumberland County Council (Morpeth 10k 2025) Temporary Traffic Regulation Order 2025 (“the TTRO”).
The Council has made the TTRO for the purposes of facilitating the holding of Morpeth 10k 2025 (“the Event”) by prohibiting traffic on the following roads:
Newmarket from it’s junction with Bridge Street to Whalebone Lane for a length of 95 metres, Bridge Street from it’s junction with Newmarket to the Chantry for a length of 260 metres, Oldgate from it’s junction with Bridge Street to it’s junction with Pretoria Lane for a length of 70 metres and Newgate Street from it’s junction with Bridge Street to it’s junction with Manchester Street for a length of 210 metres (Road One);
Newgate Street from it’s junction with Manchester Street to it’s junction with Potter Bank for a length of 376 metres, Manchester Street from it’s junction with Newgate Street heading east for a length of 20 metres, Copper Chare from it’s junction with Newgate Street heading east for a length of 25 metres, Pottery Bank from Newgate Street to it’s junction with Fulbeck for a distance of 581 metres, Fulbeck for it’s entire length and West Shield Hill to Morpeth for it’s entire length(Road Two);
The C130 Hebron junction to Butterwell junction for it’s entire length (Road Three);
and by restricting traffic on the following roads:
The U6106 Manchester Street south side from no. 18A Manchester Street to no. 8 Manchester Street (Road Four) by introducing a no waiting and loading except for taxi restriction;
North side of Oldgate from no. 14 Oldgate heading west for a length of 40 metres (Road Five) by suspending parking bays;
The B1337, Bridge Street south side from no. 2 Bridge Street to no. 8 Bridge Street (Road Six) by suspending the no waiting and loading except for taxi; and
The B1337, Bridge Street north side from no. 4 Market Place to no. 6 Market Place (Road Seven) by suspending the no waiting and loading except for taxi.
The TTRO shall come into force at the following times, subject to the provisions of section 16B of the Act:
In respect of Road One, 6:00 hours on the 15th June 2025 and will remain in force until 11:30 hours on the 15th June 2025;
In respect of Road Two, 8:30 hours on the 15th June 2025 and will remain in force until 11:30 hours on the 15th June 2025;
In respect of Road Three,9:00 hours on the 15th June 2025 and will remain in force until 10:00 hours on the 15th June 2025;
In respect of Road Four, 6:00 hours on the 15th June 2025 and will remain in force until 11:30 hours on the 15th June 2025;
In respect of Road Five, 6:00 hours on the 15th June 2025 and will remain in force until 11:30 hours on the 15th June 2025;
In respect of Road Six, 8:00 hours on the 15th June 2025 and will remain in force until 11:30 hours on the 15th June 2025
In respect of Road Seven, 6:00 hours on the 15th June 2025 and will remain in force until 8:00 hours on the 15th June 2025.
An alternative route will be available for use whilst the TTRO is in force being as follows and should the need arise changes may be made to the alternative routes, where possible these changes will be signposted accordingly:
For the north end of Morpeth via the A192, the A197, the B1337 and vice versa;
To and from Oldgate via the Curley Kews, Church Walk, St Mary’s Field, the B1337 and vice versa;
To and from Midford via the B6524, the C154 and vice versa;
To Morpeth from Hebron via the B1337, the C129, the U6009 and vice versa; and
To Hebron from the A1 via the C129, the U6009 and vice versa.
All restrictions on the Road will be sign-posted and staffed and will remain in force only for as long as is necessary.
Nothing in the TTRO shall apply to:
a. Any activities taking place on the Road related to the organisation and holding of the Event;
b. Anything done with the permission of, or at the direction of, a police officer or a Duly Authorised Officer of the Council.
c. Any vehicle being used by, or for the purposes of, the emergency services;
d. Any vehicle being used by or for the purposes of a statutory undertaker (e.g. the loss of supplies of gas, electricity or water to premises in the area, which requires vehicles to be brought onto the Road); or
e. Pedestrian access to any premises adjoining the Road.
