TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS A249 TRUNK ROAD
What is happening?
A249 TRUNK ROAD (STOCKBURY FLYOVER) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A249 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act to prevent incursion into works
proposed to be executed by contractors working on behalf of Kent County Council on the A249 south of National Highways’ jurisdiction.
The effect of the Order would be to authorise the overnight closures of: -
a) the southbound carriageway of the A249 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Stockbury Interchange (M2 Junction 5) and its transition to Kent County Council jurisdiction at its junction with Church Hill); and
b) the slip road leading to the carriageway described in a) above at Stockbury Interchange (M2 Junction 5).
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway works between Church Hill and Detling.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 3 weeks starting on Thursday 3rd July 2025 until Tuesday 22nd July 2025, between 20:00 and 05:00 hours. Please consult National Highways or Kent County Council’s websites for further details.
The Order would come into force on 1st July 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Motorway-class traffic affected by the closures would be diverted London-bound on the M2 to Junction 3 (A229), southbound on the A229, then as required on the M20. Non-Motorway traffic would be diverted London-bound on the A2, southbound on the A229, and then use Sandling Lane to reach the A249.
The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
