Proposed Construction of Road Humps in Houston

Details of the Proposals

The Renfrewshire Council in partnership with Houston community council and, in accordance with section 36 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 and section 3 of the Road Humps (Scotland) Regulations 1998, propose to construct road humps in the form of speed tables, uncontrolled raised junctions and raised roundels at the locations specified in Schedule I, II and III of this notice.

Road humps specified in Schedule I will be in the form of a speed table formed across the width of the carriageway (a maximum length 250mm (tapering channels at the carriageway edges) for a maximum 6m in design), including 1.8m ramped sections and maximum height of 75mm with associated road markings.

Road humps specified in Schedule II will be in the form of a raised crossroad platform formed to extend across the width of the carriageway for a maximum length of 10m including 1.8m ramped sections and maximum height of 75mm with associated road markings. Existing kerbing and footways to be amended including for tactile paving units as required to form crossing point. Additional drainage systems may be installed where required.

Road humps specified in Schedule III will be in the form of a pre-formed rubber 'bolt down' speed cushions, 1.6m wide, 2.1m long with a maximum height of 75mm with associated road markings (layout to be confirmed).

All road humps are subject to the tolerances as permitted within the Regulations, designed to allow the passage of vehicles without damage.

The consultation period shall run from 26/05/2025 to 23/06/2025.

Any person wishing to make representations with regard to the proposals should send details of the grounds for support or objection in writing quoting the above reference to the Director of Environment, Housing & Infrastructure, Renfrewshire Council, Renfrewshire House, Cotton Street, Paisley, PA1 1BR or by email to ei@renfrewshire.gov.uk by 20/06/2025 (closing date).
