THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
(HIGHWAYS MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME 2025-26) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025

Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 29th May 2025 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit vehicular and pedestrian traffic from those sections of highways and footways as set out in the Schedules.
The Order is required because works are proposed to be executed on or near the highways, namely highway maintenance works, will come into force on 9th June 2025. The maximum duration of the closures under this Order will be 18 months and the works are expected to take the full 18 months. However, it is anticipated that each closure will be for approximately 2-3 days. The prohibition shall apply at such time and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. A diversion for vehicular traffic will be signposted via the adjacent road network. A safe route for pedestrians will be maintained at all times. An exemption for the emergency services will be provided wherever possible. There will be an exception in the Order for personnel and vehicles involved with the Works.
