THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (FELTON)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A1 Trunk Road, in the County of Northumberland, to enable resurfacing works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start at 20:00 hours on Sunday 1st June 2025 for 10 weeks, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to:
(i) close the A1 northbound and southbound carriageways from Felton Lane Head Junction to River Coqeut, a distance of 1700 metres; during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;
(ii) close the gaps in the central reservation adjacent to the A1 at Felton Lane Head Junction;
(iii) close the laybys adjacent to the A1 northbound and southbound carriageways at River Coquet and approximately 550 metres and 390 metres south of Felton Lane Head Junction;
(iv) close the layby adjacent to the A1 northbound and southbound carriageways approximately 420 metres north of Guyzance Junction and 760 metres north of Bullnose Stannington;
(v) impose a temporary 10mph speed restriction on the A1 southbound and northbound carriageways from 60 metres south of West Moor House Junction to Felton Lane Head Junction, a distance of 3700 metres; The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle;
(vi) Ban cyclists on the A1 northbound and southbound carriageways from Felton Junction to Lane Head Junction;
(vii) Close the gaps in the central reservation adjacent to the A1 carriageway at Felton Lane Head Junction;
(viii) Ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A1 at Felton Lane Head Junction.
It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, to impose a temporary 40mph speed restriction on the A1 southbound and northbound carriageways from 100 metres south of Guyzance Junction to Bywell Junction, a a distance of 6100 metres;
Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A1. The Order comes into force on 31 May 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
