What is happening?
THE WOLVERHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL
(VARIOUS TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES IN RESPECT OF
CARRIAGEWAY RESURFACING WORKS) (TEMPORARY
PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Wolverhampton City Council propose to make an Order under Section 14(1)(a) of the
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as substituted by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, prohibiting
vehicles from proceeding on the following stretches of road:
* Merridale Road closed in both directions between its junctions with Chapel Ash and Oaks Crescent. Vehicular Diversion
Route: Compton Road, Compton Road West, Finchfield Hill, Finchfield Road West, Broad Lane, Bradmore Road and
vice versa. It is anticipated that the restrictions will operate from 9 June 2025 until 13 June 2025, between the hours of
09:30 and 15:30.
* Wellington Road closed in both directions between its junctions with Dover Street and Lichfield Street. Inbound
Vehicular Diversion Route: Lichfield Street, Oxford Street, Black Country Route, Birmingham New Road,
Thompson Avenue, Birmingham Road, Grove Street, Dudley Road, Ring Road and Bilston Road.
Outbound Vehicular Diversion Route: Bilston Road, Ring Road, Birmingham Road, Thompson Avenue,
Birmingham New Road, Black Country Route, Oxford Street and Lichfield Street. It is anticipated that the restrictions
will operate from 11 June 2025 until 17 June 2025, between the hours of 19:00 and 05:00.
* Millfields Road closed in both directions between its junction with Ward Street to side of Newlyn House. Vehicular
Diversion Route: Coseley Road, Black Country Route, Birmingham New Road, Parkfield Road and vice versa. It is
anticipated that the restrictions will operate from 16 June 2025 until 19 June 2025, between the hours of 19:00 and 05:00.
* Lichfield Street closed its entire length in both directions. Inbound Vehicular Diversion Route: Oxford Street,
Black Country Route, Birmingham New Road, Thompson Avenue, Birmingham Road, Grove Street, Dudley Road,
Ring Road, Bilston Road and Wellington Road. Outbound Vehicular Diversion Route: Wellington Road, Bilston Road,
Ring Road, Birmingham Road, Thompson Avenue, Birmingham New Road, Black Country Route and Oxford Street. It is
anticipated that the restrictions will operate from 18 June 2025 until 24 June 2025, between the hours of 19:00 and 05:00.
* Wood End Road closed in both directions between its junction with Lichfield Street to outside property 32a. Vehicular
Diversion Route: Lower Prestwood Road, Long Knowle Lane, Blackhalve Lane, Wolverhampton Road,
Brownshore Lane, Hobnock Road, Bursnips Road, Essington Road, Lichfield Road and vice versa. It is anticipated that
the restrictions will operate from 18 June 2025 until 2 July 2025, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00.
* Amos Lane closed in both directions at its junction with Wood End Road. Vehicular Diversion Route: Lower Prestwood Road,
Wood End Road and vice versa. It is anticipated that the restrictions will operate from 18 June 2025 until 2 July 2025,
between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00.
* Lichfield Road closed in both directions at its junction with Wood End Road. Vehicular Diversion Route: Neachells Lane,
March End Road, Lakefield Road and vice versa. It is anticipated that the restrictions will operate from 18 June 2025
until 2 July 2025, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00.
* Hall Lane closed in both directions between its junctions with Robert Wynd Road/Evans Street and Hurst Road. It is
anticipated that the restrictions will operate from 23 June 2025 until 4 July 2025, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00.
* Evans Street closed its entire length in both directions. Vehicular Diversion Route: Hurst Road, Ettingshall Road,
Rookery Road, Birmingham New Road, Laburnum Road, Dovedale Road and vice versa. It is anticipated that the
restrictions will operate from 23 June 2025 until 4 July 2025, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00.
* Wrottesley Road closed in both directions between its junction with Wergs Road to side of property 20. Vehicular
Diversion Route: Wergs Road, Woodthorne Road and vice versa. It is anticipated that the restrictions will be in place
from 30 June 2025 until 4 July 2025, between the hours of 09:30 until 15:00.
* Ruskin Avenue closed its entire length in both directions. Access/egress to be maintained. It is anticipated that the
restrictions will operate from 1 July 2025 until 4 July 2025, between the hours of 09:30 until 15:00.
* Whitgreave Avenue closed in both directions between its junction with Kempthorne Avenue and Colley Avenue. It is anticipated that the restrictions will operate from 3 July 2025 until 11 July 2025, between 09:30 and 15:00.
* Dickinson Avenue closed in both directions at its junction with Whitgreave Avenue. It is anticipated that the restrictions
will operate from 3 July 2025 until 11 July 2025, between the hours of 09:30 and 15.00.
* Leacroft Avenue closed in both directions at its junction with Whitgreave Avenue. Vehicular Diversion Route:
Kempthorne Avenue, Hammond Avenue, Leacroft Avenue, Old Fallings Lane, Fifth Avenue, Third Avenue,
Showell Circus and vice versa. It is anticipated that the restrictions will operate from 3 July 2025 until 11 July 2025,
between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00.
* Cannock Road closed in both directions between its junctions with Stafford Street and Nine Elms Lane. Vehicular
Diversion Route: Stafford Street, Stafford Road, M54 and Cannock Road or Stafford Street, Ring Road,
Wednesfield Road, Wolverhampton Road, Wednesfield Way, Lakefield Road, Lichfield Road, Essington Road,
Bursnips Road, Warstone Road, Laney Green Interchange and Cannock Road. It is anticipated that the restrictions will
operate from 24 July 2025 until 8 August 2025, between the hours of 19:00 and 05:00.
* Prestwood Road closed in both directions between its junctions with Thorneycroft Lane and Lawrence Avenue.
Vehicular Diversion Route: Bushbury Road, Thorneycroft Lane and vice versa. It is anticipated that the restrictions will
be in place from 7 August 2025 until 22 August 2025, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00.
The Order may operate for a maximum period of eighteen months, but it is anticipated that the works will be undertaken
between the dates detailed above, between the hours stipulated.
The Order is required to facilitate carriageway resurfacing works.
