Stanhope - Temporary Road Closures due to Carriageway Resurfacing Works

Order 2025
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road. An 810 metre length of the A689 that extends eastwards from the western side of the Market Place parking area (opposite St Thomas’s Church) to the east of Weardale Service Station, and including all abutting junctions, to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken.
An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the eastern side of the closure, from A689 easterly to A68 Harperley Roundabout then north on A68 to Carterway Heads, west and south on B6278 through Edmundbyers to Stanhope, to the western side of the closure and vice versa.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on Monday 9/6/2025 and are anticipated to be completed in 10 twilight shifts (6pm-midnight), plus two daytime off-peak shifts (9am-3pm). On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
