Clayton Street and George Street, Bishop Auckland - Temporary Road Closures and Restrictions due to Construction Works

What is happening?

(Temporary Road Closure, Prohibition of Waiting at Any Time, and Loading Only)

Order 2025

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit and restrict all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road in the manner described.

Phase 1 Prohibition of Waiting at Any Time Clayton Street - on the suspended taxi ranks to the side of nos. 1-2 Clayton Street and outside Cornerstone, Clayton Street; and loading bays from ML Hair Studio for 20 metres eastwards to the rear of the Snooker Club.

Loading only Finkle Street – on the suspended parking bays: the two westernmost parking spaces on Finkle Street. (The bays referred to above have been suspended in accordance with the provisions contained within The County Council of Durham (Bishop Auckland) Parking and Waiting Restrictions) (Consolidation Order No.1) 2014).

Phase 2 Road closure a 57 metre length of Clayton Street and George Street from the rear of the Fitness and snooker clubs on Clayton Street and extending east and north onto George Street to the junction with Finkle Street, Bishop Auckland. It will also be necessary to suspend the one-way restrictions as detailed in Schedule 1 items 3 and four of The County Council of Durham (Bishop Auckland Bus Station) (Traffic Regulation) Order 1984 on Grainger Street and Clayton Street to enable phased highway construction works to be undertaken. Access and egress to the open section of Clayton Street will be controlled by temporary traffic lights via Clayton Street and Grainger Street. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on 2/6/2025 and are anticipated to be completed four months. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
