Essex - Multiple Temporary Road Closures due to Utility and Infrastructure Works

What is happening?

Essex County Council

(Station Road/Church Street/Brook Street & Oddcroft, Colne Engaine) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily close that length of Station Road, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Coppins Yard for a distance of approximately 275m.

2. To temporarily close that length of Church Street, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Brook Street for a distance of approximately 45m in a north easterly direction.

3. To temporarily close that length of Brook Street, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Church Street for a distance of approximately 35m in a north westerly direction.

4. To temporarily close that length of Oddcroft, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Station Road for a distance of approximately 30m in a north westerly direction.

The closures are scheduled to commence on 16th June 2025 for 2 days or where stated on a valid permit (BC008WFNC2V7XSB/BC008WFNC2V7X01SB/BC008WFNC2V7X02SB/BC008WFNC2V7X03SB – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while overhead cabling works are undertaken by Openreach.

An alternative route is available via Station Road, Halstead Road, High Street, Church Hill, Upper Holt Street, Lower Holt Street, Colneford Hill, Colne Park Road, Dawshall’s Hill, Countess Cross, Overhall Hill, Green Farm Road, The Green, Church Street and vice versa or Brook Street, High Street, The Green, Brook Street, Lane Road, Colchester Road, Parley Beacons, Stonedridges Hill, Halstead Road, Station Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 29th May 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.10) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily close those lengths of roads in the District of Braintree as specified in the Schedule.

2. A temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above lengths of roads for the duration of the closures to facilitate the works.

Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force.

3.“The Essex County Council (Braintree District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of roads only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 29th May 2025, exact dates will be specified on One.network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.

Description: From the junction with Cornish Hall End to the junction with Ridgewell Road a distance of approximately 7730m

Alternative Route: B1057, B1053, Hudsons Hill, Hedingham Road, Wethersfield Road, Prayors Hill, Rectory Road, A1017 and vice versa

(Factory Lane East, Halstead) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Factory Lane East, Halstead in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 15m north west of its junction with Vicarage Meadow for a distance of approximately 20m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 2nd June 2025 for 10 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30017559487 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

No alternative route is available for this closure.

The Order came into effect on 15th May 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Mill Bridge, Halstead) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Mill Bridge, Halstead in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 95m north east of its junction with Factory Lane East for a distance approximately 60m in a north easterly then north westerly and south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 2nd June 2025 for 10 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30088798240 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

No alternative route is available for this closure.

The Order came into effect on 15th May 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Swan Street, Sible Hedingham) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Swan Street, Sible Hedingham in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Alexandra Road for a distance of approximately 50m in a southerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th June 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (AD01310782073 – Anglian Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signage showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and the workforce while valve operations works are undertaken by Anglian Water.

An alternative route is available via Halstead Road, Halstead Road – A1124, Hedingham Road, Market Hill, Head Street, Sudbury Road, Catley Cross, Long Gardens, Sudbury Road, Sudbury Road – Bulmer Tye – A131, Bulmer Tye, Linden Road, Chadburn Crescent, Cross Street, Stour Street, Gregory Street, Gainsborough Road, Gainsborough Street, Melford Road, A134 Long Melford, High Street, Westgate Street, Windmill Hill, Clare Road, Lower Road, Melford Road, Lower Street, High Street, The Green, Poole Street, Poole Street, Clare Road, Cavendish Road, Market Hill, Well Lane, Nethergate Street, Stoke Road, Clare Road, Moor Hall Road, Mill Green, School Green, The Street, Chapel Street, Baythorne End, Mill Road and vice versa following one way at Girling Street, King Street, Market Hill with access only into Baythorne End, Ridgewell Road, Far Hills Hill, The Causeway, Chapel Road, Mill Road, Ridgewell Road, Church Road, High Street, Poole Street, Hedingham Road, Yeldham Road, Crouch Green, Yeldham Road, Swan Street, Pottery Street and Queen Street.

The Order came into effect on 15th May 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
