Newcastle Upon Tyne - Multiple Traffic Notices For Blaydon Races 2025

What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(BLAYDON RACES 2025) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 15th April 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and has received consent from the Secretary of State for Transport to make such an Order.

2. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on the following lengths of road -

a) Quayside Road (B1600):

b) Sandhill/Close/Swing Bridge (B1600)

c) Skinnerburn Road for its entire length

d) Monarch Road/William Armstrong Drive

e) Scotswood Road (A695)

f) Scotswood Bridge (South towards Metrocentre)

g) Scotswood Bridge (North & West)

h) Akenside and Forster Street.

3. The alternative route for vehicles will be via the existing highway network.

4. The Order is required to facilitate the “Blaydon Races 2025” (“the Event”), to enable members of the public to watch the Event and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.

5. Exemptions will be provided for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call and vehicles associated with the event.

6. The Order will come into operation at 15:00 on 9 June 2025 and will continue to be in force until 21:30 on 9 June 2025, as and when relevant traffic signs are displayed.
