KIRKLEES COUNCIL
(TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO. 02) ORDER 2025
BYRAM STREET, HUDDERSFIELD

The Council of the Borough of Kirklees propose to make the above Order under their powers in the Road Traffc Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which, as it affects lengths of road in the Huddersfeld area of the Kirklees district, will be to:

1.Introduce one-way traffc fow on Byram Street, Huddersfeld from Northumberland Street to St Peter’s Street

2.Revoke an item related to Byram Street contained within the Kirklees Council (Traffc Regulation) (No.18) Order 2014

REASON: This scheme is as part of the Huddersfeld TCF regeneration of the town centre to improve pedestrian and cycle infrastructure going into the town centre and rail station. Byram street is proposed to be reversed one way in the opposite direction than it currently is.

The proposal to reverse the direction of the one-way section of Byram has been made in response to safety concerns at the junction of Byram Street and Northumberland Street. It had been observed that a signifcant number of vehicles were attempting to turn left from Byram Street onto Northumberland Street despite this manoeuvre being dissuaded by lining layout. This movement created hazardous conditions for both motorists and pedestrians, increasing the risk of collisions and near-misses.

Reversing the one-way direction will improve traffc fow and eliminate these turning movements at this junction. It will also enhance compliance with traffc regulations and minimize confusion for road users. This change is part of a broader effort to improve road safety in the area.

A copy of this draft Order, together with the plan showing the affected lengths of road and a detailed statement of reasons for proposing the Order may be inspected at:-
