What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (HARRATON AREA 2, WASHINGTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025


Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 20th May 2025 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the sections of footways and associated footpaths described in the schedule. The Order is required to allow for installation of a fibre optic network. The order comes into force on 27th May 2025. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, it is anticipated that the works will take approximately eight weeks. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the sections of footways and footpaths described in the schedule (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided.
Schedule: Rowan Avenue for its entire extent; Harraton Footpath 28 from its junction with Vigo Lane to the extended north-eastern property boundary of 10 Firtree Avenue; Alderwood – all associated footpaths linking Alderwood to Larchwood; Alderwood from the extended southern property boundary of 16 Alderwood to the extended northern property boundary of 16 Alderwood; West Avenue – the footpaths linking West Avenue to Harraton Footpath 29; and East Avenue from the extended south-western property boundary of 1 East Avenue to the extended north-eastern property boundary of 15 East Avenue.
