What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF FOOTPATHS AT BLACKFELL AREA 2 WASHINGTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit all pedestrians along the footpaths in the Schedule. The Order is required to facilitate gas repair works on or near the footpaths. The Order will come into operation on 4th July 2025. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 6 months, however it is estimated that the closure will only be in operation for 5 weeks from commencement of the works. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the above footpaths (except personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Pedestrian access to affected properties will be maintained throughout the closure. A diversion for pedestrians will be provided via the adjacent highway network. THE SCHEDULE FOOTPATH CLOSURES Westernmoor, from the eastern property boundary of 103 Westernmoor for a distance of 50 metres in an easterly direction. Shield Close, the entire footpath linking 3 Shield Close to High Heath. High Heath, from the extended eastern property boundary of 15 High Heath to the western property boundary of 19 High Heath. Cheviot Close, from the extended party property boundary of 15 and 17 Cheviot Close to the extended southern property boundary of 227 Thirlmoor. Thirlmoor, all associated footpaths between the extended western property boundary of 265 Thirlmoor and the extended eastern property boundary of 227 Thirlmoor.
