A21 Trunk Road (Chipstead To Pembury)
Temporary Traffic Restrictions
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A21 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to: -
1. authorise sections of, in phases, the overnight and full weekend closure of both carriageways of the A21 between Chipstead Interchange (A25) and Pembury Interchange (A228/A264), and all slip and link roads leading to and from these lengths of carriageway.
2. authorise the 24-hour closure of all lay-bys adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in 1. above.
3. i) impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on: (a) the southbound carriageway of the A21 between a point approximately 1000 metres east of the centreline of Hubbard’s Hill overbridge and a point approximately 860 metres south-east of the centreline of the southern overbridge at Morleys Roundabout (A225/B245); and
(b) the northbound carriageway of the A21 between a point approximately 140 metres north of the centreline of Lower Street underbridge and a point approximately 490 metres north of the centreline of Philpots Lane overbridge;
(c) as a separate phase, the northbound carriageway of the A21 between a point approximately 915 metres of the centreline of Fairthorne Junction underbridge and a point approximately 195 metres north of the centreline of Barnets Wood footbridge;
ii) impose a 24-hour 40mph speed limit on: (a) the southbound carriageway of the A21 between points approximately 752 metres and approximately 2060 metres south-east of the centreline of the southern overbridge at Morleys Roundabout (A225/B245); and
(b) the northbound carriageway of the A21 between points approximately 490 metres and 2040 metres north of the centreline of Philpots Lane overbridge.
Slips joining the road would be subject to the restriction of the carriageway they are joining.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake bridge replacement and all associated works.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 7 months starting on or after Monday 9th June 2025.
The full weekend closures would take place between 20:00 on Fridays and 06:00 on Mondays (maximum periods). Night-time closures would start at 20:00 hours for 10 hours. Please consult National Highways website for further details.
The Order would come into force on 7th June 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using the A25, A26, A225, A228, A2014, and the B245. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force.
The temporary closures, speed limits and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
