What is happening?

LONDON BOROUGH OF BARNET

THE BARNET (FREE PARKING PLACES, LOADING PLACES, WAITING, LOADING AND STOPPING RESTRICTIONS) (AMENDMENT NO.268) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Barnet have made on 15th May 2025 the above-mentioned Orders under Sections 6 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and other enabling powers and also proposes to install electric vehicle charging points under Section 16 of the London Local Authorities and Transport for London Act 2013.

  1. As part of a variety of measures to help regulate the parking on Varley Parade NW9 the general effect of the above Order will be to:

    (a) Formalise the introduction of new disable blue badge parking bays outside No.23 Varley Parade NW9 and outside No.18/19 Varley Parade NW9.

    (b) Formalise the removal of disabled permit holder only parking bays situated opposite No. 3 and No.4 Varley Parade NW9.

    (c) Formalise the introduction of a Goods Vehicle Loading Only parking bay operating 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday (no return within 2 hours) outside No.9 and No.10 Varley Parade NW9. This provision will help to improve loading opportunities for local businesses.

    (d) Formalise the introduction of a solo motorcycle only parking place operating ‘At any time’ opposite No.11 Varley Parade NW9.

    (e) Formalise the introduction of Electric vehicle charging only parking bays situated opposite No.10, No.14 and No.18/19 Varley Parade NW9. The parking may be used for the charging of electric powered vehicles that are being charged with electrical power, operational ‘at any time’ on Mondays to Sundays inclusive with a maximum stay period of 3 hours. Note that when the electric vehicle bays is free of charge there is a 1 hour no return time when not in adjacent electric vehicle charging bays.

  2. In order to maintain traffic flow, deter obstructive parking, improve sightlines and enhance road safety, the general effect of the Free Order will be to:

    (a) Formalise the upgrades of lengths of existing waiting restrictions operating 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm to operate ‘At any time’ at the Junction and close to the junction of Varley Parade and A5 Edgware Road NW9 (west side) to the junction of A5 Edgware Road NW9.

    (b) Amend the previously introduced ‘no waiting ‘At any time’ restrictions outside the entrance to Agudas Israel United Church and/or Varley Parade United Reform Church and the junction of Nos.1 and No.2 Varley Parade, opposite No.1 and No.2 Varley Parade NW9 and at the junction of Varley Parade with the A5 Edgware Road.

Copies of the Order, which will come into operation on Monday 19th May 2025 and the Council’s Statement of Reasons for making the Orders can be obtained, for a period of 6 weeks from the date on which this notice is published, by emailing parking.consultations@barnet.gov.uk or by writing to the Design Team, Highways Section, 3rd Floor, 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, London NW9 4EW.

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any of their provisions on the grounds that they are not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any of the relevant requirements thereof or any regulations made there under have not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
