What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF FOOTPATHS IN WESTERHOPE ROAD WASHINGTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 14th May 2025 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpaths in the Schedule. The Order is required to facilitate gas repair works on or near the footpaths. The Order will come into operation on 13th June 2025. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 6 months, however it is estimated that the closures will only be in operation for 2 weeks from commencement of the works and each closure will be limited to any one time. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footpaths in the Schedule (except personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Pedestrian access to affected properties will be maintained throughout the closures. A diversion for pedestrians will be provided via the adjacent highway network. THE SCHEDULE 1. From the extended southern property boundary of 1 Westerhope Road to the extended northern property boundary of 4 Westerhope Road. 2. From the extended northern property boundary of 11 Westerhope Road to the extended southern property boundary of 12 Westerhope Road.
