M23 Motorway, Junction 10, Crawley - Temporary Traffic Restrictions

What is happening?

M23 MOTORWAY – JUNCTION 10

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the M23 Motorway in the County of West Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on and in the vicinity of the road in conjunction with West Sussex County Council. The effect of the Order is to: -

1.   authorise the closure of –

(a)  all the slips leading to and from to both carriageways of the M23 at Junction 10 (A264/A2011) overnight; and

(b)  the emergency refuge area adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the M23 between points 85 metres and 185 metres south of the centreline of the B2037 overbridge, 24-hour.

2.   impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on –

(a)  the northbound carriageway of the M23 between a point approximately 760 metres north of the centreline of Turners Hill Road overbridge and a point approximately 650 metres north of the centreline of Copthorne Road overbridge;

(b)  the southbound carriageway of the M23 between a point approximately 205 metres south of the centreline of the southern overbridge at Junction 9 (Gatwick Spur) and a point approximately 1670 metres south of the centreline of the B2037 overbridge;

(c)  the roads leading from both carriageways of the M23 Junction 10 (A264/A2011) ;

(d)  the road leading to the northbound carriageway of the M23 at Junction 10 (A264/A2011), between its departure from the roundabout and a point approximately 190 metres north; and

(e)  the road leading to the southbound carriageway of the M23 at Junction 10 (A264/A2011), between its departure from the roundabout and a point approximately 160 metres south (A27).

There will also be lane closures not requiring the cover of an order.

These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake road widening and junction improvement works. It is expected that the work will last for approximately 1 year starting on or after Monday 26th May 2025, depending on the completion of legal agreements. The overnight closures will take place between 20:00 and 06:00 hours. Please see National Highways website for details.

The Order will come into force on 24th May 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete

Traffic affected by the closures willbe diverted using other junctions on the M23 and by using the A23, A264, and A2011.

The temporary closures, speed limits, and diversion routes willbe clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
