What is happening?
HIGHWAYS
Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.
CANTERBURY AREA
Argyle Road, Whitstable. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025
To allow footway reconstruction works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on Argyle Road, Whitstable, from 2nd June 2025, with estimated completion by 6th July 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Regent Street, Cromwell Road, B2205 Oxford Street, Argyle Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
B2248 St Stephens Road, Canterbury, CT2 7JE (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MAY 2025
To allow signage and lining works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of B2248 St Stephens Road, Canterbury, from 19:00 hours on 21st May 2025, with estimated completion by 05:00 hours on 22nd May 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between number 43 and the St Stephens Road Roundabout, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via B2248 St Stephens Road, Station Road West, A290 St Dunstans Street, Whitstable Road, Forty Acres Road, Beaconsfield Road, St Stephens Hill, St Stephens Green, St Stephens Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Bogshole Lane & May Street, Herne Bay. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MAY 2025
To install new apparatus and allow Section 278 works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on Bogshole Lane & May Street, Herne Bay, from 22nd May 2025, with estimated completion by 22nd November 2026, or until the works have been completed.
The roads will be closed in their entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Reculver Road and Sweechbridge Road.
A temporary footway will provide access for for pedestrians and cyclists.
Boyden Gate Hill & Highstead, Chislet. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025
To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Boyden Gate Hill & Highstead, Chislet, from 2nd June 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed from the junction with Ford Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Ford Hill, Maypole Lane, Maypole Road, Hoath Road, Babs Oak Hill, A28 Staines Hill, Island Road, The Glen, Nethergong Hill, Sandpit Hill, Church Lane, Boyden Gate Hill and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Broomfield Road, Herne, CT6 7DD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025
To allow frame and cover replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Broomfield Road, Herne, from 2nd June 2025, with estimated completion by 3rd June 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside number 85, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Broomfield Road, Margate Road, Hunters Forstal Road, Mill Lane, Broomfield Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Fox’s Cross Hill, Yorkletts, CT5 3AB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025
To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Fox’s Cross Hill, Yorkletts, from 4th June 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed from the junction with Dargate Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Dargate Road, Seasalter Lane, Faversham Road, Joy Lane, B2205 Canterbury Road, Borstal Hill, A290 Clapham Hill, Wraik Hill and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Glenbrook Close, Herne Bay, CT6 6PE (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025
To allow excavation works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on Glenbrook Close, Herne Bay, from 2nd June 2025, with estimated completion by 6th June 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Island Wall, Whitstable, CT5 1DZ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MAY 2025
To allow drainage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Island Wall, Whitstable, from 19th May 2025, with estimated completion by 21st May 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside number 98, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Monastery Street, Canterbury, CT1 1PE (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MAY 2025
To allow blockage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Monastery Street, Canterbury, from 20th May 2025, with estimated completion by 22nd May 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between numbers 2 and 4, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via A257 Lower Chantry Lane, A2050 St Georges Place, A28 Lower Bridge Street, Lady Woottons Green and vice versa (access only on Longport).
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Mortimer Street, Beach Street & William Street, Herne Bay. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & SUSPENSION OF ONE-WAY ORDER) TEMPORARY
ORDER MAY 2025
To allow manhole frame and cover works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Mortimer Street, Beach Street & William Street, Herne Bay, from 20th May 2025, with estimated completion by 22nd May 2025, between the hours of 19:00 and 06:00, or until the works have been completed.
Mortimer Street
The road will be closed between numbers 72 and 165, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via:
Diversion A - Mortimer Street, Richmond Street, Central Parade, Charles Street and William Street.
The One-Way Order on Mortimer Street will be suspended as follows, to allow access;

Between the junctions with Market Street and William Street.
•
Between the junctions with Charles Street and Mortimer Street.
On Market Street.
Diversion B - North Street, B2205 High Street and East Street.
The One-Way Order on Mortimer Street will be suspended between the junctions with East Street and North Street, to allow access.
Beach Street
The road will be closed adjacent to number 52, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via B2205 High Street, A291 Canterbury Road, Central Parade, Richmond Street and Mortimer Street.
The One-Way Order on Beach Street will be suspended between the junctions with Mortimer Street and B2205 High Street, to allow access.
William Street
The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via Mortimer Street, Bank Street and B2205 High Street.
The One-Way Order on William Street will be suspended between the junctions with Mortimer Street and B2205 High Street, to allow access.
St Annes Drive, Herne Bay. CT6 8QS (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025
To allow footway reconstruction works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on St Annes Drive, Herne Bay, from 2nd June 2025, with estimated completion by 14th July 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via B2205 Sea Street, Fleetwood Avenue and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Walmer Road & Belton Close, Whitstable. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JUNE 2025
To allow footway reconstruction works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on Walmer Road & Belton Close, Whitstable, from 2nd June 2025, with estimated completion by 27th July 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The roads will be closed in their entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for Walmer Road is via Sydney Road, Norman Road, Gosselin Street and vice versa.
There is no alternative route for Belton Close, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
