York, Multiple Traffic Notices - Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance, Utility Works, and Events

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 08 May 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) & (7). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), (14), (15), (16), (17), (18), (19) & (20).

(1) WELLINGTON ROW & TANNERS MOAT, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Wellington Row & Tanners Moat, York (i) on Wellington Row between its junctions with Tanner Row and Tanners Moat and (ii) on Tanners Moat between its junction with Wellington Row and the projected south-western boundary of Aviva UK (closed roads) during the period when building maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Saturday, 17 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed between 2200hrs and 0500hrs each night of the works period. Access for emergency services and residents will be maintained during the works period.

(2) ASKHAM LANE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Askham Lane, York between its junction with Front Street and a location 10 metres north of said junction (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Saturday, 31 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via The Green, York Road, Front Street.

(3) MALTON ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Malton Road, York between its junctions with the A1237 York Outer Ring Road and the roundabout controlled junction with Jockey Lane (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Sunday, 01 June 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each night during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Jockey Lane, Monks Cross Link, A1237.

(4) MOOR LANE, COPMANTHORPE

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moor Lane, Copmanthorpe between the projected south-western boundary of property no. 21 and a location 265 metres south of said projected boundary (closed road) during the period when building development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 26 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access will be maintained for residents and emergency services throughout the works period.

(5) MAIN STREET, ELVINGTON

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Main Street, Elvington between the projected south-western boundary of Derwent House and a location 136 metres east of said projected boundary (closed road) during the period when sewer works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1000hrs on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 and ending at 1430hrs on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, Elvington Lane, Hull Road (A1079).

(6) KNAVESMIRE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of footpath on Green Lane Footpath No. 55/26/10 and York Footpath No. 55/30/10, York to the extent that the said footpaths extend across the width of the Knavesmire Racecourse (closed footpaths) during the period when horse racing events are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Saturday, 11 October 2025 (event period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said events can be carried out safely. This prohibition will not apply to a pedestrian or vehicle proceeding other than during a period when a horse race is in progress. Manned barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibition at the respective locations.

(7) BARR LANE, STOCKTON ON THE FOREST

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Barr Lane, Stockton On The Forest between its junction with Sandy Lane and a location 487 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Thursday, 15 May 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0900hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Sandy Lane, Hazelbush Lane, A64 Malton Road.

(8) LINLEY AVENUE, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Linley Avenue, Haxby between its junction with Station Road and a location 115 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0830hrs on Friday, 16 May 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 06 June 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0830hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be not signed during the works period.

(9) FISHERGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Fishergate, York between its junction with Blue Bridge Lane and a location 65 metres north of said junction (closed road) during the period when footway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 and ending at 2300hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Cemetery Road, Barbican Road, Paragon Street, Fawcett Street.

(10) TANNER ROW, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Tanner Row, York between its junctions with Rougier Street and North Street (closed road) during the period when survey works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via George Hudson Street, Micklegate.

(11) MELROSEGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Melrosegate, York between locations 53 metres and 118 metres south of its junction with Fifth Avenue (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2300hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Tuesday, 20 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Hull Road, Tang Hall Lane.

(12) NEW LANE, HUNTINGTON

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on New Lane, Huntington between its junctions with Hambleton Way and Brecks Lane (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 and ending at 1500hrs on Tuesday, 20 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0930hrs and 1500hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Huntington Road, Heworth Green, Malton Road.

(13) CROSSMOOR LANE, USHER LANE & MOOR LANE, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Crossmoor Lane, Usher Lane & Moor Lane, Haxby (i) on Crossmoor Lane between its junctions with Moor Lane & Usher Lane and (ii) on Usher Lane between its junction with Crossmoor Lane and the projected northern boundary of Oak Tree Farm and (iii) on Moor Lane between a location 97 metres north of its junction with Windsor Drive and a the projected northern boundary of Low Grange Farm (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 23 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that Crossmoor Lane will only be closed between Monday, 19 May 2025 and Tuesday, 20 May 2025 and Usher Lane and Moor Lane will only be closed between Wednesday, 21 May 2025 and Friday, 23 May 2025. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Usher Lane, Station Road, The Village, York Road, A1237, Strensall Road, Haxby Moor Road.

(14) CHAPELFIELDS ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Chapelfields Road, York between its junction with Marston Avenue and the projected eastern boundary of property no. 178 (closed road) during the period when highway works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 23 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Ridgeway, Marston Avenue, Bramham Road, Westfield Road.

(15) PRIORY WOOD WAY & HAWTHORN SPINNEY, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Priory Wood Way & Hawthorn Spinney, York (i) on Priory Wood Way between its junctions with New Lane and Doriam Avenue and (ii) on Hawthorn Spinney between its junction with Doriam Avenue and a location 215 metres north-west of said junction (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 23 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. Access for residents & emergency vehicles will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Doriam Avenue, Doriam Drive, Kestrel Wood Way, Brockfield Park Drive, New Lane.

(16) BAR LANE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bar Lane, York between its junctions with Micklegate and Toft Green (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 06 June 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Toft Green, George Hudson Street, Micklegate.

(17) MILLFIELD LANE, POPPLETON

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Millfield Lane, Poppleton between its junction with Millfield Lane To Roundabout and a location 80 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when bridge survey works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1000hrs on Tuesday, 20 May 2025 and ending at 1400hrs on Tuesday, 20 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A1237 York Outer Ring Road, A59, Station Road, Long Ridge Lane.

(18) KINGS COURT & KINGS SQUARE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Kings Court & Kings Square, York (i) on Kings Court between its junctions with Shambles and Kings Square and (ii) on Kings Square between its junction with Kings Court and a location 17 metres north of said junction (closed roads) during the period when water network works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1030hrs on Thursday, 22 May 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Thursday, 22 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of travel in Newgate is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road when the closure is put into effect. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Newgate, Silver Street, Church Street.

(19) HIGH OUSEGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on High Ousegate, York between its junction with Parliament Street and the projected south-western boundary of property no. 11 (closed road) during the period when water works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Thursday, 22 May 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Thursday, 22 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Piccadilly, Tower Street, Fawcett Street, Fishergate, Clifford Street, Bridge Street, George Hudson Street, Rougier Street.

(20) LEEMAN ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Leeman Road, York between its junction with Cinder Lane and a location 42 metres west of said junction (closed road) during the period when York Central development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2330hrs on Thursday, 22 May 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Saturday, 22 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Cinder Street, Park Street.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
