What is happening?

SOUTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL
ANDERSON STREET, SOUTH SHIELDS
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF DRIVING ORDER 2025

Notice is hereby given that on 8/5/25 South Tyneside Council made an Order
under S.14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) the effect of
which will be to temporarily prohibit driving on the following sections of road:-
Phase 1 Anderson St, Sth Shields, from its junction with Beach Rd to its junction
with Winchester St. Phase 2 Anderson St, Sth Shields, from its junction with
Winchester St to its junction with Ocean Rd. The Order is required because works
are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road, and in particular to
enable South Tyneside Council to resurface the highway. The Order will come into
force on the 8/5/h5. The maximum duration of the prohibition under this Order will
be 18 mths however it is anticipated that the prohibition will only be needed from
Phase 1 between 20:00p.m - 06:00a.m from 12/145/25 for 2 nights. Phase 2
between 20:00p.m - 06:00a.m from 15/21/525 for 5 nights. The road will be open
on Saturday 17 & Sunday 18/5/25. All vehicles except those engaged in the works,
will be prohibited on the road described above for the duration of the works. The
prohibition shall only apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to
time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the prohibition, the
alternative route will be via Ocean Rd, Seafield Ter, Seaview Ter, Beach Rd & vice
versa.
