Wolsingham - Temporary Road Closures and Speed Restriction due to Bridge Refurbishment Scheme

What is happening?

(C30 Wolsingham Bridge, The Causeway, Wolsingham)

(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025

The Council on 25/4/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road in the manner described.

Closed to Vehicular Traffic: A 70 metre length of C30 The Causeway, Wolsingham from the derestricted speed signs at the northern side of the closure to the southern side of the bridge, Wolsingham.

Speed Restriction: Additionally, it will be necessary to prohibit vehicular traffic from travelling in excess of 30 miles per hour on a 113 metre length of road, from the current de-restricted signs on the northern side of the bridge, to extend the 30 mph zone to the south west of the bridge to enable bridge refurbishment scheme works to be undertaken. Throughout the period of the closure a diversion will be available from the northern side of the closure, from Wolsingham easterly on A689 then southerly on A68 turning north westerly on C33 Didridge Lane, northerly on C30 Daniel Lane, westerly on C31 Saunders Avenue and then north westerly and northerly on C30 Bedburn Road/Shull Bank/Howlea Lane/Wear Bank, to the southern side of closure and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on Tuesday 6/5/2025 and are anticipated to be completed in 30 weeks

(Closure 1: 6/5/25-23/5/25; Closure 2: 29/8/25-12/9/25; Closure 3: 17/10/25-30/10/25 and Closure 4: 10/11/25-25/11/25). On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
