Essex - Multiple Roads – Temporary Road Closures due to Works

What is happening?

Debden Road, Saffron Walden

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close the length of Debden Road, Saffron Walden in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 1020m south east of its junction with Cromwell Road for a distance of approximately 325m in a south easterly then north easterly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 30th May 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008PLT24899399230322024 – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while works are undertaken by Openreach.

Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times.

The alternative route is available via Debden Hill, Landscape View, Pleasant Valley, Debden Road, Mount Pleasant Road, Peasland Road, Thaxted Road, Water Lane, Borough Lane and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 8th May 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(School Street & Church Street, Great Chesterford) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

  1. To temporarily close the length of School Street, Great Chesterford in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with Church Street for a distance of approximately 10m in a north easterly direction.

  2. To temporarily close the length of Church Street, Great Chesterford in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with School Street for a distance of approximately 12m a south westerly direction.

The closures are scheduled to commence on 27th May 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (MX04410264619RC & MX04410264619 – Affinity Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed.

Alternative routes are available via Carmel Street, Carmen Street, Newmarket Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 8th May 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Brick Kiln Lane, Rickling Green/Church End, Rickling) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: to temporarily close that length of Brick Kiln Lane, Rickling Green/Church End, Rickling in the District of Uttlesford, from approximately 1110m east the south east of its junction with Bradley Road, Rickling for a distance of approximately 25m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 14th May 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (MX04410245537RC – Affinity Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on or near the network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while service pipe is replaced under the highway by Affinity Water.

Alternative routes are available via Brick Kiln Lane, Belchams Lane, Cutlers Green, Quendon High Street, Cambridge Road, Clatterbury Lane, Clatterbury Lane Service Road, Stortford Road, Roos Bridge Road, Church End and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 24th April 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Church Hill, Ashdon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Church Hill, Ashdon in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 425m south west of its junction with Radwinter Road for a distance of approximately 20m in a south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 18th May 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008EAWTX803MAY13 – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new service works are undertaken by Openreach.

Alternative routes are available via:

  1. Church Hill, Walden Road, Ashdon Road, Common Hill, East Street, Radwinter Road, Walden Road, Ashdon Road, Radwinter Road.

  2. Radwinter Road, Ashdon Road, Walden Road, Radwinter Road, Audley Road, High Street, George Street, Hill Street, Cates Corner, Common Hill, Ashdon Road, Walden Road, Church Road.

The Order came into effect on 24th April 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Church Road, Chrishall) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Church Road, Chrishall in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with Chalky Lane for a distance of approximately 65m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 12th May 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411001WG4GD27X – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while works are undertaken by Openreach.

An alternative route is available via Church Road, High Street, Hollow Road, Royston Road, Bury Lane and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 24th April 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Radwinter Road, Ashdon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Radwinter Road, Ashdon in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 305m north west of its junction with Water End Road for a distance of approximately 60m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 12th May 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008PLT2488466623032024 – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pole testing works are undertaken by Openreach.

An alternative route is available via Radwinter Road, Church Hill, Walden Road, Ashdon Road, Elizabeth Way, Radwinter Road, Walden Road, Ashdon Road and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 24th April 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.10) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

  1. To temporarily close those lengths of road in the District of Uttlesford as specified in the schedule to this Order.

  2. A temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above lengths of road for the duration of the closures to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force.

“The Essex County Council (Uttlesford District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of road only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 24th April 2025, exact dates will be specified on One.network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.
