Durham, Temporary Road Closure Due To Resurfacing Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (A690 between Sawmills Lane and Scripton Gill Road, Meadowfield) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025

The Council on 25/4/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road. A 925 metre length of the A690 between its junctions with Sawmills Lane and Scripton Gill Road, Meadowfield to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken.

An alternative route will be signed to vehicular traffic from the eastern side of the closure from A690, south easterly on B6300 to A167 at the Honest Lawyer, north on A167 to A690 Nevilles Cross, south westerly on Nevilles Cross Bank to Stonebridge Roundabout, then north westerly on B6302 through Ushaw Moor and Esh Winning to Cornsay Colliery, then south westerly on B6301 to Tow Law, south and east on A68, then easterly and south easterly on B6299 to Willington to A690, leading east to the western side of the closure and vice versa (access to and from Red Barns Farm and Cottage will be managed by on-site personnel).

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on Tuesday 6/5/2025 and are anticipated to be completed in 5 nights (from 7pm-6am). On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
