York - Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance, Utility Works, and Events
What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 01 May 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3) & (4). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (5), (6), (7), (8), (9) & (10).
(1) MAPLE AVENUE, BISHOPTHORPE
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Maple Avenue, Bishopthorpe between its junctions with Appleton Road and Beech Avenue (closed road) during the period when drainage works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 05 May 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 23 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.
An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Main Street, Acaster Lane, Montague Road. Access will be maintained for residents and emergency services.
(2) MANOR LANE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Manor Lane, York between the projected south-western boundaries of property no’s 26 & 36 (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Tuesday, 06 May 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Tuesday, 06 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.
An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Manor Park Road, Rawcliffe Croft. Access will be maintained for residents and emergency services throughout the works period.
(3) MOOR LANE, STRENSALL
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moor Lane, Strensall between the projected south-eastern boundaries of property no’s 46 & 52 (closed road) during the period when gas works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 06 May 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.
It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Ox Carr Lane, York Road, Princess Road.
(4) MALVERN AVENUE (CONTINUATION), YORK
This Order continues in force The York (Malvern Avenue) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2024 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue the prohibition on vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Malvern Avenue, York between its junction with Boroughbridge Road and a location 5 metres south–west of said junction (closed road) during the period commencing at 1701 hours on Friday, 02 May 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 20 May 2025 (works period) or on a date when power grid works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.
An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Carr Lane, Glebe Avenue.
(5) WELLINGTON ROW & TANNERS MOAT, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Wellington Row & Tanners Moat, York (i) on Wellington Row between its junctions with Tanner Row and Tanners Moat and (ii) on Tanners Moat between its junction with Wellington Row and the projected south-western boundary of Aviva UK (closed roads) during the period when building maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Saturday, 17 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed between 2200hrs and 0500hrs each night of the works period. Access for emergency services and residents will be maintained during the works period.
(6) ASKHAM LANE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Askham Lane, York between its junction with Front Street and a location 10 metres north of said junction (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Saturday, 31 May 2025.

(7) MALTON ROAD, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Malton Road, York between its junctions with the A1237 York Outer Ring Road and the roundabout controlled junction with Jockey Lane (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Sunday, 01 June 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each night during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Jockey Lane, Monks Cross Link, A1237.
(8) MOOR LANE, COPMANTHORPE
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moor Lane, Copmanthorpe between the projected south-western boundary of property no. 21 and a location 265 metres south of said projected boundary (closed road) during the period when building development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 12 May 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 26 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access will be maintained for residents and emergency services throughout the works period.
(9) MAIN STREET, ELVINGTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Main Street, Elvington between the projected south-western boundary of Derwent House and a location 136 metres east of said projected boundary (closed road) during the period when sewer works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1000hrs on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 and ending at 1430hrs on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, Elvington Lane, Hull Road (A1079).
(10) KNAVESMIRE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of footpath on Green Lane Footpath No. 55/26/10 and York Footpath No. 55/30/10, York to the extent that the said footpaths extend across the width of the Knavesmire Racecourse (closed footpaths) during the period when horse racing events are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Saturday, 11 October 2025 (event period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said events can be carried out safely. This prohibition will not apply to a pedestrian or vehicle proceeding other than during a period when a horse race is in progress. Manned barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibition at the respective locations.
(11) BARR LANE, STOCKTON ON THE FOREST
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Barr Lane, Stockton On The Forest between its junction with Sandy Lane and a location 487 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Thursday, 15 May 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Monday, 19 May 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0900hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period.
An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Sandy Lane, Hazelbush Lane, A64 Malton Road.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
