St Albans - Multiple Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance and Utility Works
What is happening?
HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:
(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND TEMPORARY WAITING RESTRICTIONS IN VARIOUS ROADS IN WHEATHAMPSTEAD, REDBOURN AND ST ALBANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”), except for access and to prohibit all vehicles from waiting at any time on both sides of these lengths of Roads whilst works are in progress:–
that length of Brewhouse Hill, Wheathampstead from its junction with Harpenden Road north eastwards to its junction with Bury Green, a distance of approximately 577m.
An alternative route will be via Harpenden Road, Wheathampstead Road, Piggotshill Lane, Southdown Road, Bull Road, A1081 (St Albans Road/Harpenden Road), Ayres End Lane, Ferrers Lane, B651 (Wheathampstead Road/The Hill/High Street) and Church Street.
that length of Nicholls Close, Redbourn from its northernmost junction with Lybury Lane south westwards, south eastwards and north eastwards to its southernmost junction with Lybury Lane, a distance of approximately 294m.
An alternative route will be via Lybury Lane.
that length of Ripon Way, St Albans from its junction with Sandringham Crescent south westwards and south eastwards for its entire length.
There is no alternative route available for vehicles when the works are being carried out. However vehicular access to properties in this road will be maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works.
that length of Milford Close, St Albans from its junction with Sandringham Crescent south westwards, south eastwards, north westwards and north eastwards for its entire length.
There is no alternative route available for vehicles when the works are being carried out. However vehicular access to properties in this road will be maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works.
that length of Twyford Road, St Albans from its junction with Sandringham Crescent north westwards, north eastwards and south eastwards for its entire length.
There is no alternative route available for vehicles when the works are being carried out. However vehicular access to properties in this road will be maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works.
that length of Lower Luton Road, Wheathampstead from its junction with Castle Rise north eastwards for its entire length.
An alternative route will be via Castle Rise and B653 Lower Luton Road.
that length of A5183 Park Street, St Albans from its junction with Sycamore Drive north westwards to its junction with Hatfield Gardens, a distance of approximately 422m.
An alternative route will be via A5183 (Frogmore/Radlett Road/Watling Street/Cobden Hill/Watling Street/Elstree Hill South/High Street), A411 Elstree Road, A41 (Tylers Way/Elton Way/Otterspool Way/North Western Avenue), A405 (North Orbital Road/St Albans Road/North Orbital Road) and A5183 Watling Street.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 12 May 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF GRASMERE AVENUE, HARPENDEN) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Grasmere Avenue, Harpenden from a point in line with the north western boundary of No.24 Grasmere Avenue south eastwards to a point in line with the south eastern boundary of No.30 Grasmere Avenue, a distance of approximately 20m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via Grasmere Avenue, Lyndhurst Drive, Crabtree Lane and Grasmere Avenue.
The Order is needed because utility connection works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 12 May 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CRABTREE LANE, HARPENDEN) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Crabtree Lane, Harpenden from its junction with Meadow Walk south westwards for a distance of approximately 150m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via Meadow Walk, Barnfield Road, Piggotshill Lane, Southdown Road and Crabtree Lane.
The Order is needed because utility connection works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 12 May 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF OAK WAY, HARPENDEN) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Oak Way, Harpenden from its junction with Wheatfield Avenue north westwards for a distance of approximately 25m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via Wheatfield Avenue, Wheatfield Road, Oakfield Road and Oak Way.
The Order is needed because electrical works are proposed to be executed near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 12 May 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF U16803 (UNNAMED ROAD), REDBOURN) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of U16803 (unnamed road), Redbourn from a point 56m north west of its junction with Waterend Lane north westwards for a distance of approximately 26m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via U16803 (unnamed road), Waterend Lane, High Street, Harpenden Lane, Ver Road, Crown Street and U16803 (unnamed road).
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 29 April 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT MEASURES ON ALBERT STREET, ST ALBANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect on the following lengths of road (“the lengths of Road”) will be:–
To prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Albert Street, St Albans from a point in line with the western boundary of No.63 Albert Street south eastwards to its junction with Keyfield Terrace, a distance of approximately 30m, except for access.
An alternative route will be via Albert Street, A5183 Holywell Hill, A1081 London Road, Watsons Walk, Old London Road and Keyfield Terrace.
The existing one way traffic system on Albert Street, St Albans from its junction with A5183 Holywell Hill south eastwards to its junction with Keyfield Terrace, a distance of approximately 38m south eastwards, will be suspended to enable all vehicles to travel in both directions along this length of road, whilst works are in progress.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the lengths of Road.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 28 April 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the lengths of Road.

TEMPORARY CLOSING OF FOLLY FIELDS, WHEATHAMPSTEAD) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Folly Fields, Wheathampstead from a point in line with the southern boundary of No.13 Folly Fields north eastwards for a distance of approximately 16m (“the Road”), except for access.
There is no alternative route available for vehicles when the works are being carried out. However vehicular access to properties in this road will be maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works.
The Order is needed because utility service installation works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 30 April 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF WATSONS WALK, ST ALBANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Watsons Walk, St Albans from its junction with Paxton Road north eastwards to its junction with Wetherall Mews, a distance of approximately 30m (“the Road”), except for access.
An alternative route will be via Watsons Walk, Cottonmill Lane, Mile House Lane, A1081 London Road and Watsons Walk.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 29 April 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.
