Mile End Road - Temporary Road Closure
What is happening?

Portsmouth City Council (Mile End Road) (Temporary Road Closure) (Temporary Prohibition of Loading and Waiting) (No.81) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that Portsmouth City Council intends to make the above Order under Section 14(1)(a) and 14(4)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
The Order comes into operation from 12th May 2025 and the effect will be as follows:
A) TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE
PRINCESS ROYAL WAY (EASTBOUND)
From its junction with Flathouse Road to Mile End Road.
MILE END ROAD (NORTHBOUND)
From its junction with Princess Royal Way to Rudmore Roundabout.
MILE END ROAD (SOUTHBOUND ON SLIP FROM RUDMORE ROUNDABOUT)
From its junction with Rudmore Roundabout to opposite Ferry House Lodge.
GARFIELD ROAD
From outside The Air Balloon on Mile End Road to Centaur Street.
From its junction with Gamble Road for 15 metres.
GAMBLE ROAD
From its junction with Garfield Road to its junction with Malthouse Road.
B) TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF LOADING AND WAITING
GARFIELD ROAD
In its entirety.
C) TEMPORARY SPEED REDUCTION (FROM 40 MPH TO 30 MPH)
MILE END ROAD (NORTHBOUND OFF SLIP LEADING TO RUDMORE ROUNDABOUT)
From its junction with Kettering Terrace to Rudmore Roundabout.
MILE END ROAD (SOUTHBOUND ON SLIP FROM RUDMORE ROUNDABOUT)
From its junction with Rudmore Roundabout to opposite Ferry House Lodge.
D) TEMPORARY FOOTWAY CLOSURE
Mile End Road Subway And Ramps Beneath Motorway East Of Brittany Centre
In its entirety.
E) REASON FOR THE ORDER
To facilitate high voltage cable installation works.
F) DURATION OF THE ORDER
From 12th May 2025 to 12th November 2026 or completion of the works, whichever is sooner. Notwithstanding the above, works will take place in sections as notified by signage and letters to residents in advance of works taking place.
G) DIVERSION
Vehicles will be diverted from Kingston Crescent, Kingston Road, Fratton Road, Lake Road, Cornmill Street, Commercial Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained around the works.
Cycles to follow vehicle diversion or dismount and follow pedestrian diversion around the works.
