Workington, Temporary Road Closures Due To Utility Works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (OXFORD STREET, SOUTH WATT STREET, STATION ROAD AND NEW SOUTH WATT STREET WORKINGTON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out ("the Works"), Cumberland Council has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road in Workington:

1. Oxford Street, Workington from its junction with South Watt Street, extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 15m. Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of Oxford Street, Station Road, Viaduct, Church Street, New Bridge Road, Northside Bridge, Northside Road, Hall Brow, A596 and the B5297.

2. South Watt Street, Workington from its junction with Oxford Street, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 15m; Alternative Route for vehicles wishing to access the B5297: via the unrestricted sections of South Watt Street, Fisher Street and Falcon Place.

3. New South Watt Street, Workington from its junction with Oxford Street, extending in a south westerly for approx. 13m; Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of Station Road, Senhouse Street, Hyde Street and the unrestricted section of New South Watt Street.

4. Station Road, Workington from its junction with South Watt Street, extending in a north westerly for approx. 11 m; Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of Station Road, Viaduct, Church Street, New Bridge Road, Northside Bridge, Northside Road, Hall Brow, A596 and the B5297.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and suitable alternative routes for vehicles will be signed and available as detailed above.

The Order will come into operation on 27 April 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 1 day and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
