Northumberland, Temporary Road Closure Due To Surface Dressing & Associated Works
What is happening?
NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COUNCIL ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1) B6278 CARTERWAY HEADS TO BURNMILL
BANK SHOTLEY BRIDGE AND B6278 BURNMILL BANK TO COUNTY BOUNDARY SHOTLEY BRIDGE, SHOTLEY BRIDGE (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Northumberland County Council have made an Order to prohibit the use by vehicular traffic on the following sections of roads in the County of Northumberland.
The Order is to be effective from the 22nd April 2025 until the 31st October 2025.
Road Closures:
- B6278 Carterway Heads to Burnmill Bank, Shotley Bridge for its entire length of 2038 metres.
- B6278 Burnmill Bank to County Boundary Shotley Bridge, Shotley Bridge for its entire length of 745 metres.
It is expected that the roads will only be closed on the 22nd April 2025 between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00 during this period; however, the order will remain in place until 31 st October 2025.
An alternative route will be available for use whilst the TTRO is in force being via the A68, A692, A691 and vice-versa. Should the need arise changes may be made to the alternative routes, where possible these changes will be signposted accordingly.

The closure has been requested by Northumberland County Council to carry out surface dressing and associated works. In order to minimise future disruption, other contractors may be undertaking works throughout the duration of this Order.
